My husband and I just got back from a very fun weekend at Oak Island.
We went for our 5th anniversary. We didn't quite know what to expect from the Murder Mystery weekend. We arrived at 3pm, got our room right away. It was your basic average hotel room. Everything worked, it was clean, that's all we cared.
We went for supper in the hotel's restaurant. Beautiful atmosphere, but not much selection on the menu and a bit pricey. The wait staff was superb. Food was really tasty. After that we wandered the hotel lobby and lounge, which are homey and attractive. At 9pm, we went to the wine & cheese reception. We each got a free glass of house wine, which tasted a little like rotten vinegar. :) That's okay, it was FREE. After that we got into our groups and everyone introduced themselves. A little into the evening, we got to meet the cast of actors who would be entertaining us. They were excellent. Things started happening right away, clues being dropped every few minutes or so. Each group got a booklet of clues to start with. We had to mingle in the crowd, asking questions. One of the actors tried to pick me up, which I found amusing. He had given me a clue when he did this. Later in the night someone was murdered and it was all nuts from there.
"Duck Soup" was a blast. It consisted of relays and songs and a dress-up thing. The winning team got a big clue.
At each meal the cast of characters gathered and basically fought and accused each other. We got to talk to them and ask questions. It was highly entertaining. Another person wound up dead, and then we went on a scavenger hunt around the premisis for clues.
The buffets were really good. Not many choices but the food was delicious. Wait staff was prompt and friendly. The kareoke dance on Saturday night was kind of tame until a murder happened right in the middle of it. On Sunday we had to prepare a theory and present it. If you win you get T-shirts and certificates.
What a memorable weekend. We met lots of interesting people and had tons of fun. This is a MUST for fun-loving people who like to make new friends and enjoy a little intrigue. We want to go again next year! Oh and sorry for thinking it was you, Angelo, you Italian Stallion. :)
