I took my wife there last night for dinner. For me first impressions mean a lot and I didn't get a great vibe when I walked in. The layout of this place is very awkward. . We were one of only 2 tables for the whole evening , beside 2 men seated at the bar. We were seated by the window directly under a heating vent that blew hot air right under us. In no time I was sweating. We were told it could only be turned on or off. When turned off it got cold fast. Nice spiced oil scented mason jar candle on table was never lit for us the whole night, very cheap dollar store type cutlery, stained paper menus , and an open fridge with wooden shelves across from us didn't create a very nice ambience. A series of 5 songs played over and over all night long for music. There was no bread offered. The food was tasty, nicely presented and cooked properly overall but vert small portions not worth the price. All the appetizers seemed to be presented with baby mixed lettuce , so there lacked a bit of creativity and cohesiveness with the dishes. Scallops with smoked tomato coulis were beautifully cooked with a smokey tomato sauce but the polenta just made the dish seem like a main course made smaller. Wine list was very meager and offered little choice. Fattoush salad was excellent! . Charcoal roasted cauliflower didn't have any notes of smoke or charcoal, but was fine otherwise with the garlic sauce. Gravlax was excellent but the portion was very small. Fruit de mer spaghetti only contained mussles and haddock , why no scallops? , and the composition was of the ingredients was off with big chunks of peppers and onions. Panko Haddock was excellent as were the mashed potatoes! The molten chocolate cake was presented in a ramequin as more of a custard than a cake and was very oily. Rather than mint, there were lettuce leaves and unpeeled kiwi as a garnish, making it appear like it was made by a rookie. The server was pleasant and attentive. Overall, I'd say the food is OK but just way overpriced given the amenties available. It seems like theres an identity crisis. Bistro food but with high end dining room prices?
