“Great Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

I recently attended a convention at this location... great service, great cottages and great food (even when we had a power outage)!!! Love the cabin set up....some cabins have 4 rooms and a common room which is great for friends or families staying together. Staff are friendly and very accommodating. A bit of an interesting drive if you are coming from NB or northern NS because you are taking some backroads... just follow the directions on their website and note that the Irving Gas station is shut down but the pumps are still there (just so you don't miss it)... and if you're using GPS, it doesn't want you to take the back roads and you might get lost (like some travellers did..teehee). Had a wonderful time!!

Liscombe Lodge is an absolutely wonderful place to visit for leisure or business or both. I recently attended a small conference at this resort and it was a fantastic experience. We were a group of about 50 people, and we stayed in a mixture of chalets, cottages and lodge rooms. We were pleased with all types of accommodation. The location and style of the resort, kept the group together allowing us to enjoy the business side of our convention, as well as sharing some great times with each other socially. The meeting room was great, the food was great and the staff were OUTSTANDING! Our every need was taken care of, and the staff went over and above in helping us with setting up and tearing down our social activities in the hospitality suite and rec centre. They made us feel very welcome and very much at home!

The hotel and grounds are lovely. Every morning at breakfast you will see beautiful birds at the feeders. Sometimes you see bunny rabbits when strolling along. The river is lovely and the grounds breathtaking.

I highly recommend this property.

overall,we liked our time at liscome lodge. The views and staff were excellent. The frist day our meals were great put for some reason they seemed not to massure on the second day. They lost power on the second day, caused by external problems on the power grid, however we came to find out that this is a common occurrence and was a real pain as it was out for a number of hours.

Beautiful riverside surroundings--nature at her finest. My weekend at Liscombe Lodge has convinced me to come back for more. While a bit off the beaten track, I believe that is one of the factors that makes this place outstanding. All the needed amenities are there. The beds are sooo comfortable. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. The salmon with maple sauce was perfect. But, being at a conference, I didn't have much time to enjoy the water activities on the river--which is why I have to go back. It is kid and pet friendly as well, and quite affordable. Put it on your radar, folks!

Room Tip: They are all good rooms!

I attended a conference at this location. We were a group of 50 people. The rooms were comfortable and the area was beautiful. It seems like some upgrades have been down. Amenities included a restaurant ( Call ahead on hours if you are going on off season), an indoor swimming pool, two hot tubs, a sauna, a rec centre with board games, ping pong, out door game area, and a fire pit. We also made use of a large room that we used for our conference and dinners. The buffet breakfast and catered dinner and lunch were fantastic. The staff took extra care to make sure they were aware of allergies and made sure the dishes were not cross contaminated. All the rooms had air conditioning and were spotless. The beds were a little soft. There is wi fi on site, but no cell reception. There are really no restaurants or stores off site near by that I am aware of. Bring bug spray!!!!

Room Tip: The cabins have an adjoining living room, and mini fridges. The rooms in the hotel do not have mini f...

Liscombe Lodge is located on the eastern shore of Nova Scotia, basically away from everything and that is what makes it so charming. At the convergence of two rivers, the Lodge features a variety of river sports including kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and guided sunset boat tours – most of which are included in your room rate. The resort also features several hiking trails from beginner to more advanced and lends out walking sticks to those who need them or good to scare off bears if you don’t need it for walking. Seriously; the bears frequently visit some of the more advanced hiking trails in the area and can often be spotted fishing for salmon in the river. We weren’t so lucky (or unlucky) to see any bears on our overnight stay.

The rooms at Liscombe are relatively basic but are comfortable, clean, well-appointed, and spacious. Ours was in the main lodge and had a balcony overlooking the river. There are also cabin-style rooms across the street which are well-suited to longer stays or families travelling together or with pets.

Being the active place that it is, Liscombe Lodge features an indoor pool/recreation area which was quite nice. It also has a variety of scheduled activities including things like ghost stories, smores making, bird watching, etc. But the best part of the lodge is the riverfront dining room. The atmosphere is perfect for the lodge and the meals are equally as complimentary. On the night of our stay the restaurant offered a choice of buffet or a la carte dining, but I was not going to pass up the opportunity to enjoy the resort’s famous cedar-planked Atlantic Salmon, cooked slowly on smoldering coals. It is a wonder the bears don’t come closer!

On a repeat visit to Nova Scotia, I would love to stay here again, my only complaint is that I didn’t stay long enough the first time and will be sure to book at least 2 nights next time to enjoy all the resort has to offer.

I should start this review by saying that this Lodge is listed as a provincial "Signature Resort". So when you read this you have a certain expectation. Especially when you have stayed at other 'Signature Resorts' and had great experiences. So when we arrived on May 17th (our Anniversary) for a two nite stay. Immediately upon arriving in our room, we were disappointed and considered leaving. However, because it was a 3 hour drive to get there, felt we should give it a chance. The rooms in the inn were clean but the decor was very tired. In fact, the wooden furniture was so rustic, it didn't have a finish on it (I've bought better furniture from a flea market). The door to the washroom was warped and didn't close, the screen was not secured on the patio door and there were boards on our outside deck that needed replacing. We turned the TV on to find that we only had about 5 channels and WI-FI was iffy at best (I couldn't use my blackberry and my husband couldn't use his cell - we both had no service). To top it off, we wanted to go to the hot tubs but were informed that they just opened today and the water in the hot tubs are a 'little brown' so not usable. We walked down to the marina and found boards missing from the deck (with nails sticking out) and the bumper on the dock was not attached and was laying on top of the dock with screws sticking out of it. The food was tasty but very expensive. Not to the quality of a "Signature Resort". I had pork chops that were less than 2 cm thick (skinniest ones I've ever seen). And thought my mashed potatoes may have been from a box.

We stayed at Digby Pines last year and were very impressed with that Signature Resort so we felt safe in booking Liscombe Lodge thinking it would be the same quality. We were very disappointed. We like to travel to different places across the province and use our anniversary as the perfect excuse to get away. I don't think we will come back to Liscombe Lodge which is sad because the site is beautiful (right on the river) and the staff are very good. I think there should be an infusion of money to bring this place up to the level of a 'Signature Resort'.

Room Tip: I believe the chalets have been upgraded and are likely a better choice.
