“Much Promise, Needs Better Hosting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Beautiful house and pleasant hosts, but hosting needs fine tuning. We arrived around 4.30 pm, greeted by Bill...led to room Bessie with lovely view of the river. Disappointed to find shower room outside room..shower being of quite some age and neglected...room perfect, with all appropriate furniture. As it was part of a tour, we had been on the road for a week and found having to go downstairs to ask for a coffee a bind, as this had previously been supplied. More flexibility is needed with breakfast times, as I assume most people are on holiday and would like to take their breakfast around 9 am...although perfect service at breakfast time, I feel more attention needs to be paid to guests...we checked out at 11am, but having my shower, with difficulty, around 10am, had to dash across the landing as Bill was already changing sheets in other rooms..I found this inappropriate..I just feel that the guest should feel more like the guest...

Room Tip: Although Bessie is a beautiful room, I would not take it again, on account of the shower and toilet...

A lovely Bed and Breakfast with exceptional service. Anne Marie and Bill were very attentive hosts. The breakfasts were amazing! A great combination of a historic home and all the modern comforts of today. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to any traveler, I hope to be back.

We enjoyed a four day stay at the Maiden. We enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere, the nutritious and varied breakfasts and the friendship of the gracious host. Each day we were provided with a weather forecast and suggestions of where to visit. Our host was happy to accomodate our specific needs even lending use a rope. We certainly will stay there again if we are in the area.

I was referred to A Seafaring Maiden Bed and Breakfast from the ladies at a B & B that'd I'd stayed at the night before. When I arrived at A Seafaring Maiden Bed and Breakfast,I was immediately pleased with it's location and outside appearance. A large and clearly well maintained Victorian home in the village of Annapolis Royal. I was cheerily greeted at the door by home owner and Innkeeper Bill. Ann Marie appeared for a quick hello because she had her hands full of dough for the following day's breakfast biscuits. This was a good sign.

I stayed at the Captain's Room and felt like I'd arrived home after a long day's driving. The room was equipped with all my needs. The morning breakfast featured something out of a fine dining restaurant and with Ann Marie's home made biscuits to top it off. I would highly recommend this B and B to anybody staying in the Annapolis Royal area. You won't have any regrets and you'll be hosted by one of the nicest people I'd met in my 10 days in Nova Scotia.

Room Tip: The Captains Room

Our recent two day stay at The Seafaring Maiden was exceptional. Bill was a gracious host and The Captain was a beautiful and relaxing room, very comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and filling. There was no need for lunch in our case. We both would like to return some day and wish our hosts continued success.

Room Tip: The Captain was a beautiful room, very bright with an excellent view of the harbor.

Directly from Roma,Italy,we started our holiday in Nova Scotia. And as our first time here, our impression was really good, referring to people and landscape. When we reached Seafaring Maiden we suddenly felt like home.We found courtesy and warmth, and also our 4 years old child has been treated like a prince, especially during breakfast when he had a special service.Bill has been so nice and kind, and the place really worth a stopover in Annapolis. We stayed at the kingsize bedroom, with bathroom outside, and we enjoyed early morning coffee breakfast waiting for us right outside our door, before going down for breakfast at the main room.
If you ever go down there, please give our regards to Bill :-))))))

Our stay here was just okay. Maybe because the B & B we stayed at the night before was just so wonderful. And maybe because it was just so rainy. Our room had its bathroom outside in the hallway. And it was a teeny tiny bathroom. The room itself was quite large. But, many things about it were worn - paint peeling on windowsill, windowsill not clean inside. When I went to plug in my phone for the night and had to look for an outlet, I noticed the floorboard and area under and at the head of the bed hadn't been dusted in quite awhile. And even though there was free wifi, you had to pretty much stay in one place once you got on and not move. Definitely needs some beefing up.
The owners were nice and Bill was very knowledgeable about the area and the history. He steered us to the best restaurant of the trip (also the most expensive) and a few historical things to see in the area that were of interest to us.
The breakfast in the morning was nice although very sweet heavy.
All in all, okay but the least favorite of the three B & B's we stayed at in Nova Scotia.

Dear sraeemery,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of our beloved ancestral home and registered Heritage Property built by my great great grandfather, Captain Joseph Hall, in 1881. We feel so blessed to have received so many reviews by our wonderful guests that have provided us the ranking of Trip Advisor's #1 in Nova Scotia.

We know that a house of this age requires much care and attention; during the time of your stay we were painstakingly removing the exterior paint outside of your room, thus the dust on your windowsill which naturally accumulates by the end of the day. Please be assured that every room is dusted, swept, and vacuumed after every guest stay; although I missed the spot on the floorboard area under the bed around the headboard.

The room in which you stayed, the Bessie, is quite large and includes a beautiful matching period bedroom suite; king sized sleighbed, dresser, nightstands, and armoire with scenic views of the Annapolis River, Fort Anne, and the historic town of Annapolis Royal. As this room has a private bath (not shared) just steps outside the bedroom door, we do provide luxurious signature bathrobes for our guests. The other two rooms have private ensuite baths offering our guests that option for their consideration when making their reservation.

We recognize the importance of internet access for our guests; we have the most powerful router available. When brought to our attention, intermittent service can be easily remedied by a simple reboot of the system, but we apologize for your inconvenience in this regard.

We are pleased that you appreciated our hospitality, for we truly have a passion for our guests and this profession, and the guidance/advice on activities and where to dine helpful. We believe this lovely area of Nova Scotia offers the traveler a broad range of experiences and dining options and we try our best to suitably direct our guests; including providing copies of menus for area restaurants in each room.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at A Seafaring Maiden Bed & Breakfast.

With kindest regards,
Ann Marie and Bill Monk, your hosts at A Seafaring Maiden Bed & Breakfast
