I stayed at the Alt Hotel Halifax Airport just a few days after it opened. The hotel was still under construction so I did not experience the hotel in it's finished state. Nevertheless here are my impressions of my night there:
This is the first in-airport hotel at the Halifax airport and it was indeed a real pleasure to pick up my luggage and just walk across the street instead of waiting 20 minutes to half an hour for a shuttle to an off airport hotel, as I have always done. As I entered the lobby i was greeted with a pool table, little conversation areas with rocking chairs, lounge chairs with big pillows and a restaurant bar and computer bar . The look was a combination of coffee house chic and high tech with the vaulted ceilings and colourful decor.
I checked in and took the elevator to my room (1215) which was absolutely amazing. This was a corner room which had floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides. The entry into the room was a long one - a long corridor wall with the bed situated just on the other side. I had asked for super quiet and this is what I got. I heard no corridor noise at all that night. The bathroom had only a shower - no bath but with high end amenities and big fluffy towels. (Passion Fruit soap and shampoo products).
These were the positives, but there were some negatives. The bed was extremely firm -too firm for me. The mattress was encased in a plastic mattress protector with a thin polyester pad placed on top. This made for a very sweaty sleep unfortunately. The pillows and duvet were feather and down which I am allergic to - so my night was far from comfortable. I am sure if I had asked other bedding would have been available but it was after midnight when I checked in so I just made the best of it.
In the morning when I looked for a coffee pot there was none to be found. No coffee and no free breakfast like the other airport hotels. The view from the room was spectacular though and the vaulted ceilings of the room made it feel much larger than it was.
There is no hotel like the Alt in Halifax or at the airport and it definitely has a wow factor.
Will I stay there again.? Probably, if I can get alergy free bedding. I liked the look and feel of the place and the ultraquiet room. I missed the free coffee and breakfast but Tim Hortens is right across the street and they do have some nice health food choices in their own restaurant.
Overall I would recommend the Alt for an airport stopover.
the corner rooms are the nicest.

Hello Michele M,

Thank you for the great feedback about our hotel. We are working very hard at ensuring every guest has a great stay with us. We just wanted to let you know, that we do have hypo bedding and pillows available upon request. We would be happy to ensure that these are in your room for the future. The plastic feel you felt would be our bed bug covers that are on every mattress. We place a lot of emphasis on ensuring our hotels are bed bug free. In the future, we can place an extra sheet directly on top of that for those who may be sensitive sleepers. Once again, thank you for the great review and please let us know about the hypo bedding in the future. We can add this right to your profile, so it is complete every stay before you arrive.
