“great hotel while waiting for a flight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

I'd like to say this is a great hotel to stay in if you're waiting for a flight! We did the park and stay. It's close to the airport, free shuttle service to and from airport every 1/2hr and always on time! Just make sure you call to confirm when you arrived, they have a free hotel phone line in airport.
The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are very clean, the best beds I've ever slept in, and the free breakfast is great also, (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, toast, muffins, cereal, cinnamon rolls, etc). Plus they have coffee, hot chocolate, oatmeal and also have cookies, apples in lobby during the evening.
We did get to swim in the pool , it kinda small but nice and warm. The only downfall was there wasn't a restaurant, so we had to get delivery, they do have microwavable stuff to purchase. You can use their microwave if you brought your own food to heat up!

Will definitely use this hotel whenever I fly out again and need to leave my vehicle.

Room Tip: get a room on an upper level and close to an end of hallway

Thank you cathyandlorne for your kind response. I am glad to hear that you had a great overall experience staying with us. Although the Holiday Inn Express brand of hotels are not designed with a full service restaurant, we do have a fine restaurant across the parking lot at our sister hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn. Many of our guests do choose to eat there when they stay with us.
I hope we can welcome you back to visit us again soon!
Cheers for now
John

We normally stay at the Hilton next door when needing a hotel before and/or after a flight, but since the price was the same but the HIE had a free breakfast we booked here for park and stay.
The beds were not comfortable and if you have a room ending in 05 you will hear the elevator noise all night long. There was no fridge and microwave and we ate dinner at the Hilton as there is no restaurant here. We did not use the pool but it looked ok. The room was a good size and pretty clean. The continental breakfast was pretty good for choices...omelet, cinnamon rolls, pancakes etc.
When doing the park and fly you have to park in the long term lot and take the shuttle back to hotel so access to your car is more difficult. At the Hilton you just park at the end of the lot.
We arrived back in Halifax at 1130 pm after traveling for more than 12 hours, exhausted, cold and ready to go back to hotel and sleep. I did call the hotel and ask for the shuttle and it still took about 30 minutes (the hotel is only 5-10 minutes from the airport) and when we got there the driver just hangs in the lobby reading the paper so don't know why it took so long to get the shuttle. There were other people waiting for it too that were waiting longer than us.

All in all a free breakfast is not enough to sway me to stay here when there is a much better Hilton next door and if I don't want to pay for breakfast at the Hilton restaurant there is a Tim Hortons close by. Also the Hilton cookies just cannot be beat.

Room Tip: The rooms ending in 05 have only a wall between your headboard and the elevator mechanics....very no...

Thankyou wpbdle for your honest review. Holiday Inn Express Hotels are all designed without a restaurant but are all constructed within walking distance of a restaurant. In our case the restaurant is located across the parking lot at the Hilton Garden Inn. I was disappointed to hear that you did not find our beds comfortable and that your overnight was restless. I have made note of your preference to be away from the elevators and traffic areas in the future. Fridges and microwaves are a feature in our suites and the main breakfast room has a microwave and other features available 24 hours a day. I apologize for the tardiness of the shuttle service as it is shared with the Hilton Garden Inn and runs on a continuous basis every half hour.
I hope to be able to welcome you again in the future!
Regards
John

I've stayed at HI more than a few times. All the essentials are covered. Clean and well maintained rooms. Bedding and bathrooms are clean.

As mentioned the stay isn't for the guest who is looking to frequent local eateries or sight see.
This is a hotel to stay a night prior to or post airport travel.

The gym is small yet well kept. The complimentary breakfast is always well stocked and extended somewhat later than the average property, until 10 am. Which makes it nice for those looking to sleep in. Which brings me to the one constant disappointment with this and many hotels.

The housekeeping staff: There is something quite frustrating about the lack of awareness regarding the consideration of the guests. Hotel guests sleep at all times of the day. No one wants to be awakened regardless of the time of day by housekeeping staff yelling room numbers to one another. Loud laughing and conversations in the hallways are something management should train the staff to refrain from. On the flip side, it's nice to hear happy and upbeat employees on any job....I'd just rather witness it elsewhere other than right outside my door.

Other than that. It's a nice play to stay...unless you're hoping to sleep past 8 AM, then grab a nap prior to check in.

Thank you njafares for your informative review. I am happy to hear that your stay was comfortable but disappointed to hear that your rest was disturbed. I apologize for the housekeeping team's lack of attention to the hallway noise. Rest assurred that we have addressed this issue with the entire hotel service team members!!
Thank you and I apologize again. I hope we will be able to welcome you back again soon.

I stayed here while waiting to make a next day connecting flight. This hotel is very good. Rooms are clean and spacious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The wireless worked well. Complementary breakfast was excellent; choice of hot/cold with nutritious choices too. There is a complementary shuttle service to and from the airport (5 minutes away). However, I would not recommend extended stays at this location as there are no restaurants in the vicinity (except at the Hilton next door). If you have a vehicle at your disposal this would not be an issue.

Thank you C W for your kind review. I am glad to hear that you had a great overall expereince while at our hotel. We are located in the airport area that does have limited facilities and having a car would certainly be beneficial for our guests.
I hope to welcome you back soon.
Cheers for now

Room was nice, clean and spacious. Can't hook up HDMI to flat panel tv, well you can hook it up but they have the option to change inputs blocked out. Staff was super friendly. Internet was a bit slow. Good variety of tv channels. Only issue (not hotels fault) is there isn't anyplace to eat ANYWHERE close except the Hilton Garden Inn next door or the airport 5 minutes away.

Thank you MachineGuy for your recent review. Our movie system does not allow for immediate HDMI hookup but we can reprogram to provide that feature if needed. Being in the airport area does limit food service choices for our guests but I hope you found the restaurant next door satisfactory. I hope to welcome you back soon
Cheers

Stayed at this hotel using priority points and was upgraded to a suite. Popcorn and water were waiting in the room. Because we used points - we had to pay $40 for parking for one week. The hotel is close to the airport and has a great shuttle service. Rooms were clean and large. The business center was well maintained. We had a 4am shuttle to the airport so coffee and muffins were available since breakfast did not start until 6am. We had stayed in the past and will continue to frequent this hotel.
