This is a great character century inn in a neat little town with an owner who makes the most amazing pancakes I have ever tasted. I'm not a big fan of pancakes but I didn't even put Syrup on these. I would be happy to live here. A great collection of quilts, the little shops and when one of the other guests asked a question about the type of fish caught in a particular lake in Cape Breton, the host said her mum and dad spent a lot of time in that area and called them up to ask. Don't miss this place.

If you're in the Chester area, this is a great place to stay. Rooms are charming and full of character. Suzy is a great hostess - very laid back and makes you feel completely at home. Only negative was that if you stay in the winter room, the postal delivery truck will rudely awake you at 4:00 A.M. Walking distance to everything.

I spent two wonderful nights here, in the "Miss Finnegan's Hat" room.
The food was amazing, the bed super comfortable.
Owner (and Cordon Bleu chef) Suzi is awesome, so friendly, and easy to talk to... and an amazing decorator! The inn is an old house in Chester, and it's filled to the rafters with all kinds of neat stuff. There's antiques and old quilts and hooked rugs everywhere you look. Even my partner loved the decor, and he's not one to notice that kind of thing.
The inn feels so friendly and welcoming.
It's also close to to Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, and Peggy's Cove, and of course, Chester is a lovely little place.
I just can't say enough good things about this place.

  • Liked — The decor... no, the food... no, Suzi... I can't decide.

Yes, yes, yes - This is about as good as it gets. Better than going to Grandma's or Aunt Agatha's country place. Probably the most relaxing time I have ever had. Mecklenburgh is much more than your home away from home. It is far better. You quickly realize that this is going to be something different when you notice that the main entrance door doesn't have a lock. Located in Chester - a small but truly vibrant town with good reataurants and plenty of spots to see if you just want to wander. Of course not far from all the well known towns, beaches and tourist areas, Peggy's cove, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, etc etc Don't miss Ross Farm Museum, about twenty minutes away. Great especially for kids. I did miss the ferry trip to Big Tancook island, 6 miles off shore, Less than 200 inhabitants, living in their own fabulous world. Next trip for sure.

  • Liked — Friendly atmosphere - great breakfasts.
  • Disliked — Nothing really - couldn't stay longer
  • Tips/Secrets — You won't be disappointed - great place to get away from it all

Well having recently discovered Trip Advisor while researching honeymoon locales, I thought I'd write about a wonderful little B&B I stayed at last August, in fact thats where we got engaged!

The Mecklenburgh Inn is so adorable and charming, we arrived on the fly, and luckily got the last room available. I say luckily because really there was no other good place to stay in Chester that we could see, other than a really yucky roadside motel nearby. Next time we will make reservations in advance.

Our room was adorable;hardwood floors, comfy beds with duvets, crisp, cool sheets that smelled like they were dried on the clothes line. Chocolate truffles, magazines, & bottled water also was waiting for us in the room. Our private bathroom had a deep claw footed tub and a "rain" shower head, a basket full of toiletries ranging from Aveda to Bliss products, tons of towels, and 2 plaid robes! Thank you so much for including q-tips and dental floss!!!

We went out for an evening stroll, had an amazing dinner on the wharf, and upon our return made ourselves tea in the kitchen and sat on the 2nd floor balcony and relaxed. Across the street is an old Mason's Lodge, and a playhouse is also around the corner. After a peaceful sleep we wandered downstairs and breakfast was served in the dining room at a huge old antique table where we got to meet the other guests. Amazing homemade frittatas, really good coffee--yum! After breakie we were offered beach towels and directions to the best swimming beach in town, as well as ideas about other places in the area to visit. really nice staff. Just the way I like it: not in your face but just do their job well and let you do your own thing.

The front veranda on the ground floor also has some adirondak chairs for lounging, that's where we met the Inn cat sunning himself. In short, you won't regret a stay at the amazing Mecklenburg Inn or visiting Chester. Charming, Cozy, Clean, and Relaxing!!
