“Clean, pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We were at the Point of View for one night and found it perfectly serviceable. There was some kind of banquet in the parking lot with what was supposed to be decent food and terrifying musical accompaniment from the 17th century and we avoided it like the plague. And the view of the ocean from the window was nice, although the beach below is clogged with spume and garbage.

In all though, recommended. There's not much to see in LB except for the fort and don't expect to have a charming smalltown experience. It's a bit of a backwater with fresh lobster ...

Thank you for your review. We appreciate the input from our visitors and use them as encouragement and or guidelines towards improvements. They are great tools in gaging our performence.

I do however want to address some of your comments. In our defense, our 18th century dining experience is served in a tent adjacent to the our dining room, and the event does have a minstrel who sings old french and some english songs, while playing his guitar. It is an event applauded by the many who have eaten with us and participated in the entertainment. As for the spume and garbage on the shore, I assure you that what you saw could very well have been a wash-up of sea foam along with kelp (seaweed). If there was garbage, the sea brought it onto the beach, specially after high winds. The man made garbage is something the waters share equally as it deposits its debris on all our beaches at some time and point.

Louisbourg is a small fishing village with all the modern conveniences known to man. We are not backwater. We do boast the fortress of Louisbourg as our main attraction because it is. When most people come here it is to see our "Jewel of Parks Canada", which happens to be the fortress. We have beautiful beaches, history at all ends of our village, the lighthouse with its ocean lined trail, the train museum and more. We are not a bustling metropolitan with Andrew Lloyd Webber spectaculars. We do enjoy our local talents at our playhouse for nightly entertainment of Celtic and Acadian music. We have been entertained by such names as Natalie MacMaster, Rita McNeil, Men of the Deep, Evans&Doherty, and great kitchen party evenings. We hear the raves from those who have attended the Playhouse and truly enjoyed our local flair.

Your comments has given me a chance to introduce our area to the readers of Trip Advisor, for which I thank you.

Great location, convenient to the Louisbourg Fortress, great views of both the Fortress and ocean. Rooms are birght, airy, and nicely furnished. Meals (breakfast and dinner) were good, service good as well.

Their current website gives one the impression that you'll be checking into five-star accommodations at Point of View Suites, but Unit 1 where we spent one night was unremarkable. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean, the couch a good place on which to pile stuff, and, although we didn't use it, the kitchenette area appeared serviceable. All in all, our room was adequate. We enjoyed the view of the Fort from the ground-level porch outside our room, and Point of View is conveniently close to the Fort and the limited dining opportunities in town. I would like to commend the staff for their friendly greeting and helpfulness.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about us. We appreciate all comments and concerns. I am sorry if you felt mislead by our website. We do offer everything that is displayed, however, those pics are a collage to show only some of what we have. Those pictures do not show one specific suite. We show you different views from or of different suites to give the traveler an idea of what we are about. We have 19 unique suites. Not one of them is the same.
I wish you would have brought your concerns to our attention while hear with us. I would have personally given you a tour of our other suites to give you a more comprehensive idea of what we are all about. We thrive to do our best on a daily basis keeping in mind that we are to be a memory to our travelers. We are warmed by the raves we have received and have learned from the concerns brought to our attention in the hope of improving the experience at our establishment for those who stay with us.

Thank you also for breaking down your review into categories. It shows us where we are to draw our attentions. Greatly appreciated.

See the Fortress as the approaching ships may have in its day. We loved it. They have a wonderful view of the Fortress across the water. You can walk the small beach on the property or into town or the Fortress in record time. We had a fairly new large spacious room with hardwood floors and kitchenette, comfy queen beds and cheap breakfast. The staff are genuinely friendly which made our stay that much more memorable in Historic Louisbourg. OOhh and the feast was such a unique plus, to dress up, (great family pics!) food is excellent and great value for what you get. There's. even entertainment included for $40 per person! Lobster, best fresh halibut ever and huge portion and they offered other entrees with dessert tea or coffee! So excellent! Kids had a great time. Fortress amazing!

We were a party of five, grandparents, daughter and two children, a boy 12 and girl 9. We were lucky enough to get one of the suites with a balcony, looking out over the water to Fortress Louisbourg for a Saturday night. The suite was on the second floor and quiet, even though there were people staying above, so the building is well-built. The suites are nicely furnished and well set up for housekeeping and the view is superb. Perfect for us. We enjoyed our stay. We went to the "Beggar's Banquet" in the evening which was much fun with great singing by Etienne who also woks at the fortress. Halibut or pea soup to start, delicious lobster, crab, chicken, many salad choices, ginger cake for desert.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the back that looks out over Louisbourg Bay.

I want to thank for your great review of our establishment. We are encouraged and warmed by the recognition but mostly by your satisfaction. You make our efforts and hard work a rewarding part of our jobs.

We are glad that your entire family enjoyed their stay and our Beggars Banquet. It's an honour to be part of some ones good memories. Thanks again.

The rooms are adequate and definitely not what their suites look like on their website. Our room had a funny smell to it, which we realized was because the air didn't work in the room. The view was lovely and having a balcony was a treat. For an "upscale" hotel, the towels were pretty flimsy and I was surprised at only 2 pillows on the bed. Definitely not a big deal...but there were not the amenities I've come to expect at nicer hotels. Very close to the fortress and a wonderful view. Expect a three star cottage and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about your stay with us. I'm sorry that we did not meet your expectations. I assure you that we do our very best to provide quality service and comfort for all our guests.

All of our towels are replaced with new ones each and every year and carefuly monitored at every washing. We have four pillows for each beds. The extra pillows are kept in a wooden box at the foot or side of the beds. We do provide more pillows when requested.

As for the oder in your room, it is the first time we have been made aware of any problems with our rooms emiting any unpeasant odor before. The only time we get unpleasant smells is when the tide is low and the humidity is high, the shore will have an odor. The sea breeze blows it all over town and shares it with all with no discrimination. We do not have A/Cs in the rooms as of yet. It has not been a need before this summer. This has been an exceptionally hot, long and extremely humid summer. We do however see that the need has presented its self and are looking into units which will provided added comfort to our suites. Again I appologize for your discomfort, but some situations present themselves beyond our control.

Again I thank you for your review and deeply appologize that you were let down by your experience with us and hope that this does not discourage you from visiting Louisbourg in the future.

This is a nice clean ocean view suite. We also enjoyed the Beggars Banquet where the Halibut was Awesome (and I am not a fish lover !). There is more than enough food for you and you are always encouraged to go back for more. The room itself was spacious and airy.
