“Impeccable place, hospitable hostess, great breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

The place is impeccable and the hostess very hospitable and accommodating. She made the breakfast earlier than usual time as I had to drive off early. And the hearty 'skip lunch' breakfast! love those fish cakes.

Stayed here two nights so that we had plenty of time to visit the Fortress. The main floor of the house accommodates 3 pairs of guests. One bedroom has a private bathroom; the other 2 rooms share. We had the place to ourselves both nights. As others have mentioned, the living room and TV are available to the guests. The breakfast was huge and hearty. Ward was around a bit more than Joanne and he was very helpful with our check-in, restaurant suggestions and other hints about the area.

Room Tip: One of the rooms has a private bath. If this is important, pay a bit more and ask for it.

My husband and I spent one night at this B&B, before visiting the Fort at Louisbourg. Our room with ensuite bath was plenty large enough for us and our bags and was very quiet. We were minutes away from the Fort and our breakfast was so plentiful that as Joanne stated, no lunch was needed! Joanne and Ward have a very comfortable, homey B&B and you feel like one of their family.

Room Tip: The Lighthouse Room has an ensuite bath

We arrived late, hungry and tired but Joann saved the day. She called up a local restaurant to tell them she was sending us over and willingly did the check in routine when we came back. The restaurant stayed open to serve us even though it was closing time because of Joann's recommendation. Our rooms at the b&b were very comfortable and it was intimate and cozy. The most amazing part of our stay was breakfast. I strongly recommend the fish cakes as they are absolutely fantastic and a delight for the tastebuds. Served with a hearty portion of potato casserole, you will not go away hungry. An added treat was Pogo, the resident Dachsund.

Not sure where the booking error happened but I phoned to confirm and hostess solid fine, but when we arrived there were no rooms for us. Hostess called other places and got us a slot elsewhere.
we were relieved as did not like style of hostess and felt that it was not as clean as other reviews suggested.
Cannot comment on rooms as did not see them but it seemed there was no service to be offered as there was a notice that one made one' s own bed and own breakfast.
we got something a lot better....

Room Tip: Avoid unless desperate

Joanne gave us all the information we needed for getting around Louisburg. She was an upbeat host who serves a great breakfast. No hesitation in recommending this clean and comfortable bed and breakfast. Good value all around.

This is one of the cleanest, most comfortable B & B's we have stayed at. Joanne & Ward have done a great job with their decor, every room has a different theme. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a great shower and lots of fluffy towels. Loved the little extra touches like the fluffy bathrobes and toiletries. The skip lunch breakfasts were delicious and hearty and Barb's cheesy potatoes were to die for. Loved their little dog Pogo she was cuddly but no trouble at all. Very close to the fort of Louisebourg which is fantastic to visit for a day but also try the walking trail to Lighthouse Point, very scenic. Joanne and Ward are very gracious hosts and a wealth of local information.
We enjoyed the celidh and comedy show at the Louisbourg Playhouse, also there is a little coffee shop/restaurant half way up the main street and the food there is very reasonable and tasty.
Back to Spinning Wheel, would thoroughly recommend this B&B - one of the best.
