“Laurie's House 1”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

Have to believe you can do much better and for a better price. Didn't check though; reservations were made by other. Older house renovated to poor specs. The too few electrical outlets were in odd locations. No bedside lamps to read by as an example. Clothes dryer timer didn't work so had to stand by and watch. Not what I want to do while on vacation. Stove vent, WiFi, sink light, and some outlets, were inoperable as well. Not that I am fussy, but BBQ was filthy. Had to ask for trash to be removed. Towels were never refreshed with new. Exterior doors lock automatically so don't forget to carry your keys. Some negative signage.

On a positive note, the dinning room staff was friendly. Breakfast food average. Next time I will make the reservations and stay elsewhere.

We booked an upstairs Harbor View NSK #123 with ocean view. Our room was basic, old, but clean. I suspect the room had been refurbished and had spotless blankets. The ocean view was limited if we sat on plastic chairs on the front balcony. No refirgerator or microwave in room, but a spotless laundry was on premises. Narrow parking places were assigned. The hot breakfast was buffet style in Laurie's House Restaurant.

This is where Caravan Tour bus groups stay. The hotel restaurant was average for dinner. It's upstairs bar offers live music nightly. The night we were there, we heard the best fiddle music of all our trip through the Maritimes.

Hindsight, we would stay here again. However, we would select any king or queen room in any level -- not asking for view -- and avoiding second floor levels. Ground floors are up a half flight of stairs avoiding car headlight issues. Plus, I worried that my husband would fall on the steep stairs lugging bags up or have a coronary due to the effort.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground level room. The stairs are killers. Ocean view is limited so do not pay extra for...

Not a lot of choices in this berg, but Laurie's will do quite fine. Clean, with on site restaurant and laundry facilities. Each building of 3 has it's separate wifi system and reception if good. Rooms a bit dated, but again, the alternatives are limited. Fairly large rooms. Staff very accomodating and friendly. Perhaps not the place you might want to stay for an extended period of time, but for a couple nights, you will not be disappointed. Close to everything the little place has to offer.

We were very disappointed with Laurie's. The room is very old and dated. Beds incredibly uncomfortable. No shower head in the bathroom. The bed gave me the heebee jeebees to sleep in it. There were a lot of other places nearby that looked much more inviting. For the price it was a dump.

very pricey for what we got. Over $200 with aaa/caa discount. Main office is musty smelling. Room ("Suite") was spacious but dated. Side of one of the mattresses was stained and not pleasant to see. Room was fairly clean though. Breakfast which was included was nice. Friendly staff, good food, hot and cold buffet.

We arrived in Cheticamp late at night with no reservation so I shouldn't complain because we were lucky to get a room since everyplace in town had their no vacancy sign up. However, $200+ (with our AAA discount) is a steep price for a budget motel like place. However, on the plus side a substantial, hot breakfast buffet is included at their restaurant. If you want to be in the center of Cheticamp, this place has a great location.

I wish everyone had the chance to drive to the northern most point of Cape Breton Island,Nova Scotia. Following
the Cabot Trail, one encounters views of the Bay of St.Llawrence on the left and mountains, or highlands, on the right of the two lane highway which winds up the side of the mountains ito Cape Breton Islands Provincial park. A couple miles south of the park entrance, one needs only to stop at one of the lookout points to watch whales as they playfully traverse the St Lawrence waters on their way to the Atlantic Ocean. If you ever get to make this trip, please do NOT forget your binoculars.
We stayed at Laurie's Motor Inn, in Cheticamp, NS and had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the water. The room was clean, up to date and the staff was very nice. Our morning breakfast was included in the price of the room, 150.00, and it was great. The buffett was filled with fresh fruit from local growers, as well as bacon, eggs and delicious pancakes served with their traditional maple syrup and baked beans.
As I relaxed in my chair, after dark, and watched the boats pass by I was treated to a live performance of Celtic
traditional folk music by Cheticamp resident, Silvia La Lievre, who was appearing in the dining hall of our
hotel. It was so peacefull and tranquil I did not want to go to bed.
We will definitly return.

Room Tip: Be sure to make a reservation as early as January for July travel. They book up early and have very f...
