“A delightful stop on the Cabot Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

We loved the extensive history on display at the museum. But the really fun item, for me, was the huge map showing the area. When you think you've seen and know it all, try and find where the photos on display were taken.....especially the one with the snow bank 10-12 ft high....And also be sure and enjoy the slide show on the screen just past the education area.

The volunteers who staff the museum were delightful and informative. And wonderful experience for $2 a person! I so agree with the review that calls this an "unexpected treasure!"

The photos that correspond to the large map give visitors a little perspective on what the year round living is like in the area. We would like to thank you for dropping in, and taking the time to write a comment on trip advisor.

“A nice stop along the Cabot Trail”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

The North Highlands Community Museum provides a nice stop during a long day's drive along the Cabot Trail. While small, the exhibits detailing the history, culture, and daily life of the region offer plenty of learning opportunities, especially if one isn't familiar with the area or had a chance to visit museums in Halifax. The day we visited, there weren't any costumed interpreters; however, museum staff were friendly, and ready to help with any questions we might. The exhibits are interpreted by written text - which is well-done - but might be too much for younger visitors. Overall, if you're a history aficionado, you should definitely stop here on your drive along the Cabot Trail.

“An unexpected treasure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Half-way through the Cabot Trail we came upon this unexpected treasure of a museum. Very small but very good. Fascinating information about the Titanic. Very well-kept. Friendly staff

To really enjoy this area, you need historic perspective. This museum supplies it in just the right size. Get out of the car for a visit here and the rest of the Cape will be made better.

“Wonderful - well worth the detour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

This is a great place. The reenactors are very knowledgeable and incredibly nice. Make sure you go to the house with the old telephone switchboard. The lady there will regale you with stories about the switch board but also many other things from the area as she experienced the first hand and has a keen interest in local history. Overall this was a very enriching experience We walked away with a whole new appreciation of the hardships of the early Scottish settlers, particularly how much time and effort went into making textiles.
