“Extremely Interesting Museum About the Highlands”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2011

At first I thought this museum was further north, however it is on the main road. The museum is most interesting, especially the way items are displayed & the explanation boards. If you are interested in the history of the Highlands, shipwreck memorabilia & what explorers wore, this is a charming museum. The staff was helpful & the price is a bargain. Stop in while doing the Trail. This will complement your adventure of the Cape.

Hi Richard, you were in for a treat listening to Mr Ingraham (who is 94 years young) describe lobster trap making in Northern Cape Breton. Mr Ingraham visits the Museum to chat to visitors at least once a week and has many stories to share about the past. I find myself sitting on the deck with him as he tells tales of when he and my grandfather lobster fished along side of each other and the pranks they used to play on other fisherman. It brings a smile to my face knowing that those stories can still be relived through local seniors who love to share the memories. Thanks again for visiting! Hope to see you again

“Charming, quirky and well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011

The museum does an excellent job of presenting the rich local history in an accessible and brisk way. The current exhibit on the weather of Cape Breton is fascinating (who'd think.) The settlers' garden is really interesting; the rules forl teachers circ. 1850 are hysterical (at least two petticoats at all times!) A stop at the museum helps give context to a trip across the north of Cape Breton, which has a really rich but often somewhat hard to penetrate culture and history ... Watch out for the Wednesday night performances or lectures at the church next door - went to one on moose that was riveting!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2011

I had the honor of attending the Dalhousie Med. School Musical performance last night at the Culture Centre. It was an amazing show. So relaxed and entertaining. It was well organized by the staff and volunteers of the Museum as well as other local members of our community. A job well done by all. Thank you for this opportunity to hear such talent.
