My wife and I stayed at the Broadwater Inn in July of 2011. I did quite a bit of research and selected the Broadwater based on location, amenities and value. We arrived on a sunny day and had the opportunity to sit on the porch enjoying the sun and an “OK” but limited view of Bras d’Or Lakes. Dorothy checked us in, I was a little surprised she requested our three-night stay be paid in advance. I was also surprised breakfast was served at 8:00…period! OK, so we’ll roll with in. We stayed in the “Library” on the 2nd floor which, as other readers mentioned, is accessed through a very narrow stairway. No problem for me, I considered it to be part of the “charm”.
The library is a very large comfortable room with a seating area and new whirlpool bath that worked for the first 5 minutes or so. The major challenge to the room was an exceptionally uneven floor. It wasn’t a big deal for us since we had the opportunity to relax in the sitting area and read before bedtime. Again, we thought it was part of the “charm” of an old structure.
John the Inn Keeper was extremely informative and congenial. As other readers mentioned he is very knowledgeable about the area and anxious to provide you with directions of where to got to get the most enjoyment from your stay. Overall our experience was pleasant with one exception…the breakfast is marginal to say the least. Each morning we were served the same, what appeared to be microwave, omelet and fruit, which I’d bet, was from a jar. The claim of “homemade” bread/toast is questionable but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
We paid $135 Canadian per night for the Library, which I thought, was a good value.
We consider the Broadwater Inn to be “OK” but not sure we’d return. Research this establishment very well before you take the plunge…know what you’re getting into
