“Fun Evening - even for us tone deaf types”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

It is so great to see the local joy of people for their music and culture. Two excellent examples of young musicians who can toe tap and play with the best of them. i did not know that toe tapping was an art form to say nothing of the excellent violin and piano playing. So different than anything I would hear out west and yet so fun.

“Toe tapping evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

Earlier in our trip, we had visited the Gaelic Music Interpretive Center on Cape Breton and were already introduced to this type of music. But having an opportunity to attend an event in person was an unforgettable experience. We were so engaged, that the two hours passed quickly and before we knew it, it was time to go home. We bought a CD from one of the musicians, so we are enjoying the music still. A must do in Baddeck!

“Ceilidhs are a must see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

I'd never heard of a ceilidh before visiting Cape Breton...and am so glad our group had the chance to attend two of them. Ceilidh (pronounced Kay-Lee, I think) means gathering and it's music - really good music with accomplished fiddlers and pianists who perform and sometimes dance. $10/person and reservations are usually required because they sell out. Note: you can make your reservation at the Baddeck Tourist Info Center. They start on time (usually 7:30 PM) and will put your name on a chair. Don't be late or they'll give up your spot (100 person capacity). This music is incredible and was the highlight of our trip.

“A must-do when in Baddeck”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Your host, Nancy, is passionate about Gaelic culture, ceilidhs, and the musicians she features. We heard a wonderful fiddler, who brought the music and culture to life through her commentary. She was accompanied by an excellent piano player. The evening included a group of young musicians from Ontario who had great musicality, and had clearly put a lot of time and energy into rehearsing (although the girls were more accomplished dancers than the boys!). You can't get a better evening for $10, and the oatcakes at intermission sure beat popcorn at the movies.
