“What a lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

My friend was visiting from Vancouver and we decided to take her to Trinity. We stayed one night at the Artisan Inn and ate dinner before the theatre at the Twine Loft. The stay was lovely, Tineke and her staff made our experience even better. Can't wait to return!

The owners/management team are very gracious. They provide information on the area and appear eager to offer their guests a fine experience. The Campbell house is nicely decorated with many interesting objects to look at. If you want to experience a night in a Country Living magazine setting, this is your opportunity.

There are, however, very definite drawbacks. There was a strong "old house" smell one night we stayed (possibly because we activated the furnace as it was rainy and very cold?) which made it difficult to sleep. We didn't notice this on our second night, when we had the windows open. The floors are very uneven, which is charming during the day but quiet disorienting in the dark. The bathroom is technically "yours" but is not en suite and this is more inconvenient than I had expected (I would not choose this again). Sound travels heavily through the building - we were fortunate that no one was staying in the upper loft room; had there been anyone there is would have been very disturbing.

The ceilings are not much over 6 feet - a tall man would not be able to stand. The shower head is very low - I am 5'8" and found it very uncomfortable to wash my hair. All of the mirrors are hung at 5' or lower - I had to bend way over to put on make-up or fix my hair.

I would choose a different room for a subsequent visit.

Arrived during a downpour. What a welcoming spot to see the lights of the Inn. Amazing service provided by owner and her daughter. Stayed in the Studio. Beautifully appointed and spotless. Enjoyed drinks in the loft. So quaint. Attention to detail impressive. Sorry we could not stay longer to soak up this wonderful relaxing environment.

Artisan Inn is a charming inn in historic Trinity, Newfoundland. We stayed in a very attractive and comfortable guest suite. The owner, Tineke Gow was amazingly warm and hospitable. We had an excellent dinner and breakfast in the inn. Sitting on the deck over the water with a glass of wine was heavenly. We loved our stay so much that we decided to return a week later but with no vacancies, had to stay at a different inn, found for us by the staff at the Artisan. Tineke invited us to return to the deck or the lounge on our return stay and as it was very rainy, we took her up on the offer. Not only did we enjoy a pleasant read in the lounge but we were served fresh baked muffins! We felt like family when we left.
Anyone visiting Trinity would be very lucky to be able to get a reservation at the Artisan Inn but book early, they get filled up well ahead.

Awesome place to stay if you're looking for a peaceful and authentic experience. The owner gave us tips on what to see and how to get there even lending us her map and me her rain coat. The back patio (right on the ocean) is a little piece of heaven where you can choose from a number of good and affordably priced wines and just relax. Seemed to be pretty centrally located in terms of getting to the various must sees and dos in the area.

Our room was clean and spacious - the bathroom was new. Everything you'd want from a B&B.

We had two dinners at Twine Loft, both of which were good. The meals are homey and the portions are large - the kind of meal you'd expect to get at your grandmother's house.

I'd definitely go back and would recommend it strongly to friends and family.

Our 8 days at Commanders Keep in Trininty, Newfoundland was a slice of heaven! Tineke Gow and her team at Artisan Inn (property managers for Commanders Keep) are consummate professionals. This shows in the high level of customer service, attention to detail and remarkable care and attention. We loved our time in Trinity and recommend the vacation rental Commanders Keep. This house is exceptionally well built, well maintained, and beautifully appointed....and the view is extraordinary! Also, having dinner at Twine Loft is an experience not to be missed!
