“Excellent well appointed big suites”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

I stayed in the two bedroom suite and really enjoyed it. The bedrooms were nice and big with a bathroom and balcony connected to each . One of the bedrooms had a fireplace and couch with plenty of room to move around. One of the bathrooms had a separate shower and bath which were nice. The other bathroom was a combination but that needed to be renovated because the shower didn't work well. The kitchen was not big but had everything we needed. The living room had a fireplace and a decent size. Their were plenty of amenities and needed nothing. The property is on a beautiful bay on the ocean and there was a nice walking trail and kayaks available to use free of charge. The closest town, Parksville, is about a 10 minute drive and Nanaimo about 20-25 minutes away. We ate at the restaurant and the food was excellent. Overall, I loved the rooms and could easily be comfortable for a lengthy stay.

Where do I start? Great location and friendly people but that's where it ends. View of the ocean? Sure if you want to run around the building. Bright modern? Felt like I was in a basement suite. Bed is beyond FIRM, would say HARD. The people upstairs sounded like they were running up and down the room. Fridge yes but no microwave or iron or ironing board....would have been useful as I am here on business. They don't replace towels, you have to call the front dest and MAYBE in an hour they will show.

Room Tip: Ask for a top room facing the ocean

We stayed at pacific Shores just for one night earlier this week as it was close to Cathedral Grove and Coombs. We had a lovely one bedroom suite in the "200" building, with a full kitchen, nice deck and gorgeous view over the water. The bathroom was beautiful with a giant bathtub big enough to use as a hot tub. We also used the outdoor hot tub which sits in the middle of the resort in the garden. They have a gigantic aquarium in the middle of the restaurant and there are several aquariums throughout the resort which are usually teaming with sea urchins and fish but during this visit they seemed quite dark and had barely anything in them.
The service was fairly good but we had to call housekeeping to ask for late checkout and all the calls to the front desk seem to be routed through the store so at times it was hard to get through to anyone.

We also rented kayaks on the last day. They're free and the bay there is great for kayaking for beginners - very shallow.
Its a very peaceful resort and I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: There are a variety of buildings on the property which have been built over the years. The older one...

We recently stayed at the Pacific Shore. It was okay. We stayed in the 2 bedroom unit, (unit A&B) it had a kitchen with fridge, stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer, microwave and the basic essentials. I would have to say the kitchen-ware was VERY cheap, it would have been nice to have quality cookware to cook a decent meal, there was no cookie sheet or bakeware if you wanted to bake something in the oven. Unit B was VERY muggy, no ventilation, so we had to sleep with the patio door open (luckily we were on the 3rd floor, so we could leave the door open all night)There is no AC, so I can't imagine staying there in the summer-time. Definitely something I would have to think about if I was to stay in the middle of summer. There were a few times I called down to the front desk and no one answered. No daily room service/housekeeping, as we used my mother's timeshare, but would have been a nice touch to have. The room needed a bit of a touch up, I noticed a few "touch-ups" throughout (not done very well I might add) but needed a bit more. Heated floor in the bathrooms was nice. Didn't try the restaurant as it seemed a bit over-priced. Very good location, we got to walk the beach-walk.

My girlfriend and I stopped here on our way to Tofino and were originally attracted by the website's description of their hotel suite:

"Pacific Shores' hotel suites are bright, modern and cozy."

I would gladly disagree with every claim in that statement. The room we stayed in was reminiscent of a basement suite, dark and damp. So humid in fact, that it was hard to fall asleep. The sole window was the balcony door that lead to small patio that was surrounded by 6 feet of concrete. Absolute no view of anything.

I'm no expert when it comes to design, but last time I checked, wicker furniture hasn't made a come back yet. There was nothing "modern" about this room. Green carpets and white wicker furniture. A far cry from the website's room photos.

The restaurant was over priced and quite disappointing. Our appetizer was stone cold.

It wasn't all bad though, the grounds were very nice and the staff were nice enough.

I understand we stayed in the lowest type of room, but we booked based on the website's room description and the relatively positive reviews. If the site was more honest, we would have at least been prepared for what we paid for. We brought up this issue with the staff but was greeted with a canned response of "Oh, we'll take a look at the website", Needless to say, the misleading statements are still there.

I would be reluctant in recommending this place to anybody based on my experience.

Room Tip: Avoid the basement hotel suites.

Dear valuable guest,

We are so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the hotel room you stayed in. We have different types of buildings and hotel rooms available in our resort and you are correct, we have two or three hotel rooms that still have the wicker bedroom furniture.

We are currently working on the back end of the website to make sure all different room types are represented; as this is taking some time, we have a created an interactive resort map in the meantime with pictures of different room types, accessible from our homepage.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the resort amenities, grounds and the service you have received from our staff.

Please contact us by e-mail so we can make sure that your next visit is pleasant one.

We really enjoyed our stay at this resort. It has everything. The pool is not wonderful but adequate. Other than that everything is excellent value for money. Great location for getting around the centre of Vancouver Island, for beach walks, in and out of Parksvilles and everything in between. We rented through RCI but you can rent through the resort as well.
We didn't try the restaurant on site as it was too busy but we were told it was an award winning venue.

Room Tip: we stayed in the 300 block which is a very good location. Phone the resort.

Needed a break so spent 2 nights midweek, fantastic specials in the off season. Worth calling directly to book, I did much better than I found on-line through 3rd parties.
Very peaceful, my unit was right on the creek just off the ocean. Nice walking trails, outdoor pool and hot tub were great (didn't try the indoor ones), restaurant and spa are wonderful. It's on the calm side of the Island but the beach is still fun to poke around on.
The 1-br unit was spacious with a great balcony, fully-equipped kitchen, Wifi was good. Decor was very elegant and calming. No skimping on detail: heated tile floors, great jetted tub, piles of huge towels.
The restaurant isn't open in the morning during the week (at this time of year?) but there's coffee in the suites and I just brought some fruit, yogurt, etc. Would be a fair walk to any other restaurant, but a short drive to the Serious Coffee on the Old Island Highway, or not much farther to Parksville amenities.
The place started as a time-share resort, so don't expect big hotel room service, 24 hour housekeeping, etc, but I found everyone I dealt with extremely helpful and pleasant.
