“One of our top holiday treats.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2015

The only regret we had about telegraph cove was that we should have stayed longer, the cabin was comfortable staff all very helpful. We arrived to late to book the whale watching trip but we were treated to an amazing sunrise with a heavy sea mist, I think this place is one of the most photogenic places in Canada, I would be more than happy to stay here again.

The cabin we were in was a normal cabin, nothing special and the accommodation was basic but historical. However the location of the hut was just brilliant. You can walk 25m and you are looking out at sea. We had a bear 5m from our door and hummingbirds visited the feeders. Just amazing.

we were supposed to stay two weeks in the campground and only stayed for one.we couldnt leave fast enough.when you look at there web site, all the pictures are at the water and the baordwalk, which is beautifull.but there is not any of the campground ,or very few.we thought we were camping right at the water.NOT.the campground is away from everything you see on the website.it is right up against a mountain,so you dont get any receiption on phone,tv or otherwise, the washrooms were really dirty, there was black mold on the shower curtians and duct tape holding the shower knobs in place and in the corners of the shower where gobs of hair and dirt.i thought maybe ,they hadn't been around yet to clean.NOT.this is what i found right after they cleaned.there also was no hot water at the sinks.i only used the facilities once and felt more dirty then before i went in.Does everyone know how to sponge bath? thats the only way your getting clean in this place.when i took my concerns to the owner,he did not want to talk to me,i was trying to voice my concerns as he was walking away from me.i was telling him i felt decieved by the website,as i thought we would be on the water camping .there is nothing sugesting otherwise.there is a campground that is right on the water there but it is not run by the same people.you might even get a glimps of it in some of the pictures on the site but don't be fooled. this is not them.the owner told me as he was walking away that there are so many people that come there, that he's not wasting his time on the people with such rediculass coments.i didnt get the chance to talk about the condition of the facilities.when we were there in augest the campground was emty, only a few people. We Will Never Be Back Again.if you looking for what a campground should be.SALMON POINT RV RESORT !! i cant say enough about it.its everything telegragh cove is not.

Telegraph Cove is a hidden gem and should be kept that way, that said when we visited we were told that the season hadn't been the best and tourist numbers had fallen, we were encouraged to write a review so that the industry that is there can remain.
Telegraph Cove is a beautiful unspoilt little place with limited accommodation, we camped in the well kept campground, where you can walk to a couple of private bays from. There were fire pits and wood to buy from the very friendly campground manager.
At the cove there is a restaurant, pub and general store, however we visited on the last day of the season so amenities were limited.

We stayed in Wastell house in a second floor room with bath and overlooking the cove. An Antique Boutique hotel. Beds comfortable and rates very reasonable. We had access to the first floor kitchen with fridge, coffee maker, microwave. We loved having our evening glass of wine and reading in the charming sunroom overlooking the boats and BC forrest. Staff was polite and efficient. We loved the BBQ salmon dinner. Best salmon ever, thx Gordon! Very, very relaxing. Coffee and pancakes dockside overlooking the cove was fabulous. Check out the Blinkhorn hiking trail, and wear good shoes! Quite adventurous passing under huge fallen trees and up ladders supported by rope rails, fun! Whalewatching brought us here and it was an experience of a lifetime. Best to rent a car to drive here. We flew from Vancouver to Port Hardy where we had a Budget rental right at airport.

Room Tip: Second floor in Wastell house overlooks the cove.

In the month of August had the pleasure of spending a few days at the Telegraph Cove Resort which rents out the original cabins dating back to the 1920s located along the boardwalk. Overall relaxing place to spend a few days. If you plan to visit and stay make sure you book will in advance and that goes for the Grizzly tours which can be booked up weeks in advance.

My initial questions and our reservation were handled efficiently and in a friendly way via email. All the information I was given in answer to my questions was accurate. This was the most expensive lodging of our 3-week trip, but we were fine with the price given the unique nature of the accommodations and surrounding community. We reserved the 2-bedroom suite above the coffee shop out at the end of the dock for 2 nights.

We arrived at Telegraph Cove a bit before dinnertime to a less-than-welcoming desk clerk who checked us in and gave us our keys. We were sent looking for a cart to haul our suitcases and groceries out to our room with the instruction not to use any cart labeled housekeeping. It took a while to find a cart and it had flat tires, but we loaded it up and pushed and pulled it down the boardwalk and out to our room.

It had been relatively warm on the day we arrived and we went up to a stuffy apartment whose ocean front windows do not open. The window in the kitchen was under a roof with a large air conditioner or fan running so it only allowed in noise and warm air. A fan in the stairwell was blowing cool air in and we hoped that would be enough to make the rooms more comfortable by evening (it did). For such a beautiful location it seems strange that a window could not be opened to capture an ocean breeze.

The kitchen had only the most minimal dishes and cooking supplies. Fortunately I had simple cooking plans and there were only three of us. Otherwise I would have had an even more difficult time pulling our meals together. Because the kitchen had no natural light we set up the sitting room tables so we could eat there overlooking the cove.

The master bedroom was comfortable with decent linens. The second bedroom was off the kitchen and had no window so it was stuffy and dark. It was just barely big enough for the two twin beds in it.

The bathroom was small, but functional. Overall, the apartment was clean which is important.

While we certainly had some issues with the resort and our accommodations, but the main reason for coming to Telegraph Cove is the quick access to Stubbs Island Whale Watching and we literally walked out our door and were at the office and the boats. We enjoyed taking our morning coffee down to the boardwalk and watching the boats come and go along with early morning wildlife and birds.

We wished we had made kayaking reservations too since they were all booked up for our available times. We walked over to the trail that had recently been cut in the woods by the campground, but pretty quickly we realized we weren't equipped for the hike and we turned around, but if you have good hiking boots and don't mind needing ropes to hold onto as you climb up the trail this would be a lovely hike.

We enjoyed staying at Telegraph Cove. It is a unique location and interesting to walk around and watch the fishing boats come and go (with a lot of salmon being successfully caught). Our lodging experience was hit and miss, but we'd stay there again for the beauty and convenience. It really wouldn't take much to address a few of the things that we felt were negatives, but I also could see that there was a lot of maintenance going on. This old boardwalk community must take a lot of work to keep up.
