“An amazing day trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

It was the main reason to go to the North of the island, to see whales and preferably Orca. They had not been seen in the area so far this year. We were greeted really well by the captain and his lovely and extremely knowledgeable daughter. We shared the experience with just 10 other people from all over the world. The boat was very spacious and comfortable. About 1 hour into our trip to the east we sighted a group of 5-6 transient Orca chasing down a dolphin. It was the most amazing chase with spectacular action and photo opportunities. The dolphin was caught and we did not get too close to see the kill. Later we saw 2 humpbacks, harbour seals, dolphins and many eagles and to top it all on the way back an obliging black bear trundled along the sea shore. It was a day to remember with great informative canadian hospitality including lunch of excellent soup. Thank you so much.

“Brilliant trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

The Mackay family run a terrific whale watching trip. Captain Bill was able to find whales even though it was very foggy. He showed us plenty of Orca, and, having told him my dream was to see a humpback, he showed us a lot of birds feeding on the water and told us not to take our eye off them. Suddenly up through the middle came a humpback whale lunge feeding. The most wonderful experience and very moving. Lovely warm soup on board and a very friendly family. Can't recommend them highly enough. Not to be missed!

“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2011

Our tour with Mackay Whale Watching picked us up from the dock of our accommodation at Hidden Cove Lodge and we spent a fabulous day whale watching. It was very foggy to start with and we could hear humpbacks and then eventually saw them in the distance through the fog, it was very eerie but also great. We then found a family of orcas and saw them a various times through the day. We also saw a fishing boat and got very close so that we could see them haul in their catch.

The captain seemed to know where to go and the rest of the crew were terrific.

I would thoroughly recommend this tour and we will do it again next time we are in Port McNeill.

“What an excellent day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2011

A colleague advice me to go whale watching with Mackay and we were not disappointed. The Captain is excellent and very knowledgeable along with his crew - a family business. Besides Orca's we saw many whales, sea lines and bolt eagles. A day to remember!

“An excellent trip everyone should experience to enjoy nature at its best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

I have been on various whale watching excursions but always return to MacKay Whale Watching in Port McNeill, BC and have never been disappointed. The Captain is excellent and very knowledgeable along with his crew - a family oriented business which makes the trip even more pleasurable. I took my two girls (10 and 8) on the latest trip and they thoroughly enjoyed seeing the various pods of Killer Whales, the Humpbacks, Porpoises, Sea Lions, a Black Bear and the beauty of the entire area off the coast of Port McNeill. A gorgeous, calm, sunny day where we were surrounded by nature and incredible wildlife one does not get to see everyday. Soup, buns juice and desserts are served for lunch - delicious! Be sure to pack your camera for this trip!
