“Good Food, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

We had our staff Christmas dinner at this restaurant taking up the entire front of the building. We ordered off the menu and it came out hot, fast and tasty. Service was good and I felt they went out of their way to make the evening as accommodating and gracious for the lot of us!! Thanks for a great meal and a nice place to gather!

“Missing Ingredients”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

The restaurant is on the picturesque main street and a good location.

The inside of the restaurant feels like one of those seasonal stores that is open for three months tops. One wall has a few plain prints the other mirrors and a few pictures. The tables are lined up in rows. the lights turned down and that is it for decor. There is a large plain waiting area that is partitioned off from the tables and then another partition separating a bus station/bar/storage area/empty space. The end effect is that you and sitting between to even plainer empty 'rooms' that you have a clear view off. The overall impression is that the owners do not expect to be there long.

This may prove true due to decor and service. Our server was friendly and tried hard but it never really happened. There were only two servers and no sign of anyone else helping out. It was a Thursday night and prime time, where was the Manager?? Again this made it feel like they just don't care.

The entrees range from $19 to $23 and they were very good. The wine list consist of a house wine and Jackson Triggs; two reds and two whites at $27. So it was an easy $100 for one app, two entrees, wine and tip.

So the missing ingredients are decor, adequate staff and management that care. Does not sound like a good recipe to us.

“Good food, but service needs to improve. Go after 8 PM.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

This restaurant is a relatively new venture by the same folks who own Campo Marina in Osoyoos. The menu is the same, more or less. This was our second visit (we were there in the summer) and, unfortunately, the smoothness of the operation has not improved.

On our first visit, things were a bit disorganized. As the restaurant had recently opened, we felt it was growing pains. This second visit we planned to eat and then go to a movie, which started at 7:30. At noon on a Saturday, we made a reservation for 6 PM that day. The reservation was confirmed by phone message in the afternoon. We are an hour away, and so timing is important. We arrived at five minutes to six. The foyer had a few people. We waited while numerous groups arrived and were seated ahead of us. Finally at 6:20, I asked if we were going to be seated soon. I got a flustered and snappish response from the Maitre D'. We were finally shown to a table at 6:30. We waited for at least 15 more minutes for our order to be taken and food finally showed up at 7:15, an hour and 20 minutes after we arrived. Needless to say, any thought of the movie was long gone.

The reservation system states two seatings, 5:30 and 7:30 PM (who eats at 5:30?). By 7:30 the restaurant was nearly empty. It is hard to operate a restaurant in a place where everyone wants to eat at 6 PM and all customers are gone by 8. If you want to eat here - reservation or not - don't even bother showing up before 8 PM. You'll have the place to yourself.

I need to stress that the food is excellent, both in quality and value. The wait staff (two - this is a 50 seat place) tried hard. The Maitre D' is incompetent, they need someone else bussing and setting tables. A reservation confirmed should be honoured. I doubt we'll be back to this location, we'll stick to the Osoyoos location. Restaurants in Grand Forks are hit and miss. Nothing seems to last long except the pubs and the Chinese buffet. Maybe, if the residents got over everyone having to eat at 6 PM, there would be some decent places to dine. For now, that seems to be a faint hope. I can't see how a place can stay viable with one or two hours of business each day, so my guess is that this place will eventually close too, in spite of decent food and good value.

“Awesome food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

We live in Grand Forks, so any new restaurants are met with enthusiasm. We've had a few that killed the enthusiasm quickly, but not this one! We hope it lasts!

Great food, altho' cost is more in line with city restaurants than small towns, but I admit I don't care. I'm just happy to have an alternative place to eat locally! The place was pretty new in June & we found the service a little slow, but that being said, the food was worth the wait. If you're heading out for a relaxing evening with friends, who's in a rush anyway??
