“The Best Place to Eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

The prices are a bit high, but there's only one other place to eat in Egmont and Backeddys doesn't offer anything near the service, view and great food that you get at The Wilderness. Classy dining, watch the activity on the water, the sunsets are magnificent, the service beyond compare. A nice relaxing atmosphere after a hike to the skookumchuck.

Room Tip: We stayed at the Bathgate, but the Wilderness looks pretty good too.

The lodge is in a beautiful setting with stunning views and whilst we enjoyed our stay it was not the luxry the web site had led us to believe.
The food was excellent but one of the appetisers and two of the entrees on a small menu were not avaible. We were told they'd be avialable later in the week but then told they were not going to be as it was near the end of the season - a month away! Why not reprint the menu to stop the embarrassment for the waitresses.
To say the rooms were cosy was an understatement, cetainly not luxurious and there was no table on which to balance the table top ironing board.
Whilst there are spa facilities there is no resident therapist so you have to book a day or two in advance and hope there is one available. We tried to hire their bikes but they were all back at the shop for servicing.
The wifi was intermittent to non-existent in the rooms - most frustrating.
An experience not to be repeated and expensive for the servcie we got.

Room Tip: Go for a suite, the rooms are very small.

Hi Helen;

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent visit.

We're pleased that you enjoyed the meals that you had with us. We also apologize for any confusion about the menus during your stay. Our menus are updated throughout the season to include items that are fresh and available. As the seasons change so do the selections. We have passed your comments along to our chef.

We offer a variety of rooms at the lodge including standard rooms, deluxe rooms and suites that can accommodate up to 4 guests. The standard room that you stayed in is sweet but small and the suites are definitely the luxury rooms, we agree with you.

The WiFi at the lodge is available in the main lodge building and on the adjoining decks. It is available in some of the rooms as well depending on the location. We currently have the most comprehensive wireless service available in our remote setting.

It's unfortunate that you didn't take the opportunity to discuss these issues with a manager when you were with us. Had we been aware we would have done everything that we could to improve your experience.

We visited the West Coast Wilderness Lodge in September for a family celebration. The Lodge is easy to reach by car but at the same time very remote - quiet, spectacularly beautiful, spotlessly clean and friendly. We spent two nights there and we dined both at the Lodge and at the Back Eddy Pub next door. Meals at the Lodge were fantastic - fresh, local ingredients and tasty, and wonderful staff. And the Pub was fun! We have visited several times over the past few years. It is local with great food and excellent service. We hiked to the Skookumchuk Rapids, an easy but lengthly walk (10k round trip) to see some spectacular BC coast scenery, highly recommended. Overall a fantastic holiday for BC folks or those from away who want to see some of the best of our amazing coast.

Room Tip: An ocean front room is a must here. Higher is better for the views down Jervis Inlet.

We spent our honeymoon at the West Coast Wilderness lodge and couldn't have been happier with our decision. The scenery was spectacular. The service was great. Our adventure guide Catherine was fantastic. She really made our trip extra special.
Highly recommend this wonderful place.

We spent 2 nights at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge after returning to Pender
Harbor from Princess Louisa Inlet in our 26 foot MacGregor. We LOVED this
Lodge. We found all the employees and the owner to be VERY helpful and
friendly. We loved our stay -- food was very delicious, service was wonderful,
the outdoor hot tub looked down on the water and wilderness, our room was
very comfortable and the view from within our room and out on our patio was
beyond spectacular. Really can't say enough for this resort. It is a very
special place for us..

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the water. It is worth the price! Be sure to sit in the hot tub and look out...

Our bliss-provoking stay at the lodge was indeed in a nature focused location at the end of the road, but this was wilderness for those who want comfort in the experience. The location and the view are beautiful, with the main building restaurant and the cabins and the decks well designed to make the most of the surroundings.
Comfort, warmly hospitable personnel, an excellent restaurant.....great halibut at dinner and eggs Benedict for breakfast.....the stunning view of the passing boats on the inlet, and the Big Dipper, larger and brighter than we had ever seen it, hanging low over the mountains on the other shore. and all of it wrapped in a profound and soothing silence. I know there are also excellent adventure and nature appreciation opportunities available here, but ours was a one night stay because a wedding party was taking over the whole lodge the next day.....and what a glorious location for an outdoor wedding, even in September!

Room Tip: The rooms with a view of the inlet are choice but the others looked good too, land were private and...

We were late for the ferry on the Sunshine Coast, praying for lodging somewhere along the wooded highway. Boy did we get lucky! THE LODGE IS CHOICE, from the cozy cottage where we bedded down for the night to the delicious fish chowder that began our late dinner upon arrival. Paul, the owner, is friendly and knowledgeable. The entire staff treated us with warmly gracious hospitality. Oh, and the view. There is that. It's a postcard.
