We spent several days exploring Dawson Creek, CouchSurfing with locals, and visited the art gallery on a stormy and rainy afternoon in the middle of July. What a pleasant surprise this turned out to be.
Lots of local arts displayed and historical information about Dawson Creek. It is a great place to visit if you are not in a big hurry to get somewhere. There is plenty of parking at the huge parking lot. Snap your picture at the Alaska Highway Mile 0 sign at the corner of the parking lot, walk around town a bit, and spend an hour or so at the art gallery. It also has cute gifts made by local artists, if you are into souvenir shopping.
Be sure to visit the Old Fashioned Bakery - found in the opposite corner of the huge parking lot. It serves fresh, delightful fresh bread and pastries. Get the zupfe (a Swiss braided milk bread - I almost ate the whole loaf by myself) The bakery is closed on Sunday.
