“Stay at the Resort to pamper yourself”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

Not the bargain option, but so lovely to put on the robe and walk down the hall to the pools. The king bed was totally comfortable and cozy and the view of the lake is wonderful. The only complaint was the strong smell of bleach in the hallway from the laundry on our floor. The restaurant is fine, not spectacular but plenty good, well appointed, great service and convenient. Dinner was $20+ Canadian, but was fresh and healthy. We had the breakfast special, a delicious omelet that was cheaper than restaurants at home. Ainsworth Hot Springs is a wonderful experience-the caves are amazing and it's fun to sit in the hot pool outside the cave and chat with people from other countries.

We visited on a quiet mid-week late winter time. It is very crowded in the summer but I totally recommend this as a romantic overnight from the North Idaho or Spokane area. On a two night trip, spend the middle day visiting Nelson or the cute town of Kaslo.

Room Tip: Avoid the floor with the laundry. But it's not that bad.

I've been coming to the hot springs all the way back to when I was a kid. The hotel renovation a while back was a positive, but the overall atmosphere is now ridiculously pretentious.

I ordered the Ainsworth miner's platter for breakfast, and mentioned I wanted it with actual maple syrup ($2.50 or something upcharge). The waiter replied with "Excellent Choice", and went on and on about the virtues of real maple syrup. Not only was he discussing syrup as if he thought a grown 40 year old had never tried it, but he went on and on as if he was trying to ingratiate himself to get a big tip. Honestly, any place that charges $190 a night should be serving real syrup anyway.

At dinner I could overhear similar conversations with other guests by other staff. Either the staff isn't being paid enough, or this sniveling hat-in-hand "service" is actually expected by the predominantly American visitors to the resort. But if you are going to explain the minutiae of your "fantastic" dinner bread, at least have the good sense to serve it warm so that the supplied butter would actually melt a bit.

The pools were ok. The tiles in the hot pool / cave area are once again coming loose; you can feel them flex as you step on them. The "warm" pool has its blue paint coating starting to fade in several places and looks "dirty" as a result. Honestly, close for a proper maintenance period each year and fix these things.

Somehow coming back to the resort was like meeting up with a college buddy you haven't seen for a couple years: what was charming is now annoying, and you end up wondering how you ever became friends in the first place.

Room Tip: View rooms are worth it for the first time visitor; stay on the third floor.

Sorry to hear about your annoying college buddies. Clearly your experience in our restaurant was unforgettable, however there is nothing ridiculous or pretentious about good old fashioned hospitality. Our servers receive comprehensive training and often build lasting friendships with our guests. Everyone appreciates friendly, experienced and knowledgeable waitstaff.
You're right about the pool needing attention. Replacing the liner is on the maintenance agenda for 2014 and It will be all spiffy again.

We have stayed here many times over the past years, but this last trip was a bit disappointing. The pool and caves were so crowded and it was hard to find space to keep our group together.
We ordered room service, which was much better than eating at the restaurant on such a busy weekend. We have 3 kids and had a noise complaint within the first 2 hours from the people below us because you can hear EVERYTHING in the rooms. I spent the rest of our stay hushing the kids and trying to police their activities. Not very relaxing.

Of course we want all our guests to get the most out of their visit and it certainly can be a challenge for any groups on the busy weekends. Earlier morning access to the hot springs is for hotel guests only and can prove to be the best time of the day. We are happy to hear that you have enjoyed previous visits and would sure like to see what we can do to help make your next visit pleasurable. Thanks so much for taking the time to post your thoughts. We look forward to future visits.

only stayed one night, but our room was cozy, clean and comfortable. The robes provided were a nice touch when going to the adjacent hot spring pools - and admission was included in the price of the room! We ate dinner and breakfast in the on-site restaurant and had wonderful food and service. We'll be back!

We stayed here recently one night as part of a weekend getaway.

We chose the Designer Suite, which is on the top floor, and had a great view of the lake and mountains. The bed was comfortable, and the room is nicely decorated and roomy. The bathroom was great, with heated floors, a walk in shower and stand alone soaker tub (which you would probably never use, since you will be spending "soaking" time at the hot springs :) )
It was a bonus that we were provided with bathrobes and slippers.

The hot springs are awesome....we loved the hot pool and the caves, especially the waterfall shower that you can stand under in the cave, as well as the big pool....it is sooo relaxing to sit there, enjoy the water, and take in the views.

Most staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, especially the staff at the pools.

We ate dinner at the restaurant, and it was okay. The view is great, but the room itself doesn't have much atmosphere. The waiter was attentive and hard working. I had fish and chips...the fish was good, the fries so-so and lukewarm. My husband had the prime rib and said that it was very good. I would be inclined next time to drive to Nelson or Kaslo where there are some really good restaurants.

I give the review 4 stars, because as good as the room was, I believe it is one of the better ones, and believe that the others aren't nearly as nice. Also, we found it a bit expensive for what you get....and the hotel itself doesn't really have much character or atmosphere. The rooms also aren't very sound proof...one of my pet peeves. We heard talking and the tv in the room beside us - not enough to make out what was being said, but enough to know that people were talking and the TV was on.
However, it really is all about the hot springs, and that is what you come here for.....and they are great!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor facing the lake are best, and the floor is adults only, which is great. The...

I did not sleep or eat at the hotel. I just paid admission and swam in the pool and walked through and lounged in the caves. The water in the caves is really warm/hot. I love breathing the steamy humid air in there. The cold dip is a bit of a shocker. The pool is nice and the caves are neat, but don't expect a 5 star resort on carlsbad cavern. Just a small place, literally on the side of the road with a cool cave you can swim through.

After being in one of the worst dining experiences last night, The Springs completely rejuvenated my over all impression of fine dining out the lake north of Nelson. We were promptly seated and told the specials warmly greeted by seasoned staff. Our server was for sure one of the highlights of the meal. He was a great attitude that one can only hope to have serve you. My friend Ordered the Oysters and says they were very good but could have been larger. We both ordered the same Entree's The T-bone steak with pepper corn sauce, mushrooms and prawns. The steaks were amazing after a long 12 hour day of fishing. The sauce was well worth the additional costs involved. The mushrooms were a great portion, however I felt like the prawns were not very big. The vegetables and mash potatoes on the side were very new and well prepared perfectly. Drinks and over all service quality are very high at this place and I recommend it to anyone looking to have a great meal. The only thing people should be aware of is this is not a place you can typically just walk up and get a table. Make a reservation or you may be waiting for a table.
