I have stayed at this hotel numerous times for work over the past few years - usually once a month. It is a nice looking hotel with new furnishings and facilities. The beds are very comfortable and all the rooms I have been in have had a large sitting area, full sized fridge, stove, sink and dishes which is nice people who travel a lot for work or don't want to eat out. When the rooms are clean, I enjoy staying in this hotel. They have a nice hot breakfast which is included in your room rate (cereals, toast, bagels, yogart, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, juice, and coffee) in a breakfast room. Depending on what time you go for breakfast, between 6 am - 8 am on weekdays, they don't seem to keep up to the demand and lots of times there is slim pickings.
On numerous occasions, I have had very poor customer service which have included them being under staffed, inexperienced/untrained front desk staff and very inconsistant housekeeping. I have been given rooms that have been dirty including having not been cleaned at all from the previous guest (unmade bed, towels on the floor in the bathroom, dirty dishes in the sink) and once, I was even given a room with someone's belongings in it! When I bring my concerns to the front desk, they don't seem to be authorized to do anything about it other than to put you into another room which sometimes isn't much better. The last time I stayed at this hotel (December 2011), the assistant manager actually gave me attitude when I complained about the cleanliness. Once, I was upgraded to a suite but most of the time, they don't normally offer any restitutions for inconveniences. I have had to wait on a couple occasions, over an hour before they were able to find a room that had been cleaned by housekeeping, which can be trying after a long day.
They also started requiring guests to give them your driver's licence so they can take a photo copy of it for their records but most of the front staff are not sure wjhat company policy is on the handling of this private information after you have checked out. I discussed my concerns with the assistant manager who told me they have had problems with guests checking into rooms reserved in someone else's name (working for the same company) and then credit card charges being challenged after the fact. He assured me that they shred this information after the charges had been settled but I'm still concerned about who has access to this information since they seem to have a high turn over of front desk staff.
To be honest, I have made arrangements with another hotel in Cold Lake for my accomodations on my next work trip. All I look for in a hotel is for it to be clean everythign else is just a bonus! I frequently stay in hotels up to 4 days a week across Western Canada so I have saw just about everything so far and this hotel really needs to train its staff and set standards for consistant housekeeping.
