“Worst dump in North Dakota”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

I've stayed in 30+ hotels in ND the past three years, I affirm this is the worst one. Room details: the bed was a beat-up foam mattress that was squashed in the middle, the refrigerator didn't work so I jammed it full of ice and used it like a 1940s ice box, the carpet was shabby, the bathroom was beat up, poor insulation and the hallways are a source of noise, the best feature was a 17-inch TV. Staff details: terrible, but this can be attributed to the fact that Minot has no employable people left to draw from; most Minot employers are having this problem. Other details: in general, the hotel is a complete disaster; you will find vending machines plugged into power strips, missing boxes on electrical outlet receptacles, broken lighting fixtures, non-functioning security doors, and other inexcusable maintenance concerns everywhere. This hotel has no redeemable qualities and they charge a relative fortune (at least in ND $$).

Travel Slayer,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay. All feedback is welcome. I send my personal apologies to hear that the room was not to your liking, understandably so. I was wondering if you might remember what room you stayed in, so that we may address the issues that have brought to our attention. Our south tower rooms are being updated, but we are trying to do it in a manner to not distress our guests, my feeling is you may have stayed in a room that still needs updated. My staff joins me in our apology for your unpleasant stay. We hope that in the future you give us an opportunity to serve you.

My biggest complaint comes from our 3rd night. Wedding party, loud music, no help from staff! At 11:45, after already having to evacuate the hotel because of a fire alarm (caused by a fog machine by the same wedding party!), the loud music continued with the security guard saying he couldn't do anything about it. I would never chose this hotel again. The management obviously is not concerned with being a "grand" hotel...only a mediocre one.

I think they rent the very large indoor pool area for birthday parties, ect. I like kids so I thought it was great. Our room was spacious and comfortable. It could use a update as the bath fan was very noisy and fixtures were dated. We ate dinner at their restaurant and the food was delicious. Had bbq ribs and the slab was more than I could eat. Breakfast was also great. I would stay here again if I return to Minot.

Room Tip: do not get a room facing the pool area. Strong smell of clorine and the sound of children having th...

This is the 3rd day that we got back to our room at night & discovered no service! So once again we called the Front Desk & they sent someone down with fresh towels, etc. But who would think it would happen 2 more times after we complain the 1st time? The only outstanding employee was Shawn Thomas, who should teach Customer Service to the rest of the staff. This is the 4th hotel we've stayed at during our 10 days of travel & by far the worst one. The check-in girl didn't even know if they had any rooms with sofabed, which is what I ordered on line, so gave us a rollaway. I would not recommend this hotel.

I stayed here May 14, 2013 after driving with my son to Minot AFB. When I walked into the hotel, I was impressed with how they had obviously updated the hotel. My only issue was at check in. When I arrived, I waited to be checked in after the gentleman in front of me. When he was done, the blonde lady at the front desk rudely checked in the jerk that came in after me. Thankfully, a young lady from the back came out and checked me in. Other than that, the room was nice, spacious and well appointed. The beds were comfy with two different kinds of pillows. My room was next to the pool and it was quiet, with dark curtains that made me feel like I was in a cozy cocoon. My dinner at the restaurant was delicious with wonderful, friendly service. It was the same the next day. The hotel was close to the airport and provided free shuttle service with a nice driver that I felt safe with. My family and I will definitely stay here again because of all of this and the close proximity to both the AFB and the airport.

Room Tip: The hallway from the pool smelled strongly of chlorine but my room did not even though it was next t...

I was placed in this hotel for a business trip and have no major complaints about my stay. The hotel is older but appears to have been recently remodeled. My room was large, well decorated, and had all the amenities I need. The bed is a pillow top, which may turn some people off. My dinner at the hotel restaurant was a little about average, but the price was good and the dinning room has a great view of the city. There is not a lot options around the hotel that is walking distance, so consider renting a car if you need to get out of the immediate area. i would likely stay at this hotel again depending on why I am in town.

Friendly staff, large hotel with decorating straight out of the 80's.On the upside, there's an in-house restaurant that provides room service and a speedy breakfast. There's also a large indoor pool and jacuzzi. Those things would be nice for families traveling with kids, especially during the snowy winter months.

On the downside, the high speed internet was spotty and not strong enough to maintain a VPN connection on a laptop. The "business center" is two desktop computers in a lobby alcove right beside the front door. Not good if you need to get work done during a business trip. Rooms were large and comfortable enough, but everything felt worn out and not totally clean.

Good location, directly across from the airport. Other restaurants (from casual sit-down dining to fast food) are close by. Unfortunately, there aren't many other hotel choices in the area. There's a new Hampton Inn across the street with higher rates, but the other hotels we saw looked more tired than the Grand International. I was told by locals that it's difficult to keep hotels clean when guys come in from the oil fields with muddy boots. Now that Minot is an oil town, there's a shortage of hotels and workers to run them, so this may be the best choice until the infrastructure catches up.

Room Tip: Rooms on the inside have a window facing the pool, which can be noisy when kids are swimming.

I am glad that you enjoyed your stay. I am not sure why you received spotty free wireless, but I do have a call into our provider.
