We washed into Minot during bad weather and spent two very pleasant days here at the Econo Lodge. It isn't just that everything was so shiny and new (although it certainly was) that made us happy to be there, but rather that the whole place was so well-designed, with an eye to beauty as well as to comfort. When you're stuck indoors for two days, your surroundings matter more than would otherwise be the case.
The room furnishings and decor were a pleasure to behold, and way better than the bland cookie-cutter stuff seen in most chain hotels. We had a good amount of space, two comfortable queens, a nice table and comfortable chairs, and a much roomier bathroom than generally found in chain motels these days. We may have been trapped by the weather, but we didn't feel trapped in our room: it was enjoyable to be there.
If we got tired of our four walls, we could go out to the very nice public area and relax in one of the comfy chairs placed by the windows, and we coud have coffee or tea and a nice big bakery-style cookie while we watched the storm rage. This nicely appointed space was also the breakfast room. The fare was mostly the standard continental stff, but there was fa waffemaker on hand ifor those who'd like something more substantial. We were happy with both the food choices and the surroundings.
For people washed off the road while riding cross country on a motorcycle, the guest laundry was a dream: TWO washers and TWO dryers, and when you bought laundry detergent at the desk, you also got a dryer sheets. Thank you for that! And the brand new appliances did a great job of cleaning our stuff.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were grateful that they let us park our motorcycle under tbe canopy near the entrance. They also helped us sort out the options for dinner, and we ended up ordering tasty yet inexpensive meals from local restaurants that deliver. We enjoyed them in the nice ambience of our room. The motel is in an area just being developed, so there were no restaurants nearby and we weren't about to get back on the bike and drive into the storm. But local dlivery turned out to be a fine option.
We generally try to avoid motel chains on the outskirts in favor of locally owned lodgings near downtowns, but we were very happy to have stayed here and would stay again if passing through Minot on a future trip. We also found the price quite reasonable considering the high quality of our lodging.
