Just got back from this hotel in Sunny Beach and I mainly only have good things to say about it. I had a few complaints but generally I think this is a lovely hotel that is well kept and I would definitely go back again.
It is in a perfect location, its only a short transfer time to/from the airport (approx. 30 mins) and its right in the heart of Sunny Beach. The main strip of shops, bars and restaurants is just outside the hotel but its far enough away from everything to still remain quiet. No matter which way you leave the hotel you can walk for miles with plenty to see whether it be a look round the shops, a few drinks in a bar or just enjoying the hustle and bustle of the place. It is also right by the beach.
The people are all very friendly which was a pleasant surprise. All the restaurants have touts outside trying to get you to go in so they will approach you but when you say no thank you they are very courteous and just say no problem, maybe tomorrow. This was a far cry from places like Egypt where you cant walk 2 metres without being harassed.
I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I'm quite a foodie but was pleased with everything in general. There was plenty to choose from all day and the theme nights (Bulgarian and Spanish whilst we were there) were lovely. The is plenty of fresh fruit every day as well as a wide selection of salads, oils, bread, soups, kids menu and local cuisine. I travelled with an 8 month old and although I was worried about her having the food initially I never struggled to find something suitable for her. I can honestly say I enjoyed eating there every day and didn't feel the need to go out and find alternatives.
We had a family room that was very spacious. It had a nice big bathroom and was open plan. There was a very tiny kitchenette area with a hob and cupboards but sadly none of this worked. The bathroom was big enough and clean. The room is very basic and there are a few stains on the carpets so its a little tired and could do with a little bit of a face lift. The balcony was nice and big but the noise from the evenings entertainment was so loud at night that you couldn't really escape it whether you were in the room or on the balcony. We were at the front of the hotel so maybe its not the case if you were at the back. I think it stopped by 2230 most nights but with an 8 month old we weren't exactly the life and soul of the party and had early nights!
I know this is a bit picky but there are only 2 or 3 English channels and they tend to be news channels. I only really noticed this as we were never late in due to the age of our daughter but would've been nice to be able to watch something other than bbc world news!
We did have a problem in our room which we discovered on the 5th day! On day 4 I managed to get a tiny shard of glass in my foot but no idea where it came from. I was a little concerned as my daughter is at the crawling stage and was all over the floor but I couldn't see where it came from so didn't think anything of it. The next day we found the rest of it! Under the bed was loads of broken glass that had obviously happened before we got there and hadn't been cleaned up properly by the cleaners. We did complain and asked for it to be cleaned up straight away. No one had arrived to our room within half an hour so we went to dinner and reminded them it needed a good hoover. When we checked later the beds hadn't even been moved back and we still had to pick up 3 tiny shards of glass from the floor. I am just thankful it was my foot that got the glass rather than my daughters.
STAFF and ANIMATION TEAM
All the staff we encountered were lovely, very friendly and welcoming. There was one girl behind the bar in the lobby who didn't seem to be able to tell people they were not next in line so served them before us patient ones even though it was clear she recognised the fact that they had just barged in. Apart from that everyone was great. The animation team worked hard all day with the children and tried to get people involved all the time. The shows at night were not exactly ground breaking but they were pleasant enough to sit and watch. Its a lovely atmosphere and surrounding to sit in at night.
There are 2 large pools and 4 small pools. They were all staffed well, the lifeguards were very attentive at making sure there was no one with glass by the pool and they were always very quick to fish stray plastic cups out of the pools if they blew in. Technically you aren't allowed to reserve sun beds before 0800 but people were out there earlier than that. Having said that there were plenty of beds to choose from. There is a childrens water slide which is only open certain hours of the day and again is staffed. My only criticism is that the pools were freezing and a baby pool would have been nice. There were small pools but I was hoping for a really shallow one with perhaps some water squirting things in it for very small children.
We didn't go on any excursions. The only trip we made was to Nessebar which is a quaint little village a few miles away. We got the bus which cost a whopping 1 lev each (about 50p) and went straight there. So please don't pay a tour company to get you there!
Due to the ungodly flight time we had to pay 100 lev (about £50) for a late check out so we could keep our room until our 2am pickup. We also had to move rooms but I guess that is often inevitable. Not sure why the rooms are booked like this as it meant on arrival at 5am we had already paid for our room from the day before and on checkout we technically had to be out by midday even though we were not getting picked up until the early hours.
Overall this is a lovely hotel in a great location and I would not hesitate to go back.
