First of all, we were going to the neighbour hotel Meridian, which is 4 *. But when we arrived at reception, they told us that there's no vacant rooms etc, and offered us the nearby hotel Dunav. Of course we became worried, because Dunav is 3* and our Meridian is 4*, but the reception staff as usual started explaining us that Dunav is great hotel and may be is even better than Meridian bla-bla-bla etc .. Finally we moved to Dunav, and we have not regreted about this!
Dunav's area is green and clean and quiet, while in Meridian there's no trees and grass and the swimming pool is straight behind the fence from the loud and dusty road. Dunav's pool is not very big to swim a lot, but is quite enough to cool yourself after sunbathing.
The hotel is located may be 7 minutes walking from the Black sea, if you turn right after Bourgas hotel, after ths Ship cafe you will reach no-umbrella area, where it is good to relax just near the sea and without payment.
Though the Dunav is located not in the Sunny beach centre (it is 25 mins walking or 2 bus stops), the surrounding area is FULL of different nice bars and restaraunts, and the closest night club is in 5 minute walk. So I'd say there is no need to go to the centre everyday, because the nearest area is also very good. Also it is very convinient that the bus stop ("ARDA") is just 1 min from hotel, and you can easily access Nessebar and Bourgas to the left, and the town center and aquapark in opposite direction.
The hotel rooms are okay, not brilliant but it is 3 star hotel. Our balcony was very small, but there are large balconies, it depends on which side of the hotel your room is situated. But what I didn't like is that towels are renewed only every 3 days, not everyday, what is not very good. The WC and shower are very good, but don't forget to take your shampoo and gel, because there's only soap.
Also a little minus is that there are only 2 small lifts (for 4-5 persons), and the building has 9 floors, so in rush-hours (breakfast, dinner) you have to wait quite long for the lift.
The meal is quite good quality and is different from day to day, but we spent 15 days there so we got tired of that meal really. The all-inclusive is all local drinks, beer is like mixed with water, wine is also bad, but you can drink gin, vodka, whiskey - it is all strong :) Actually alcohol is extremely cheap in Bulgaria, the cheapest shop is supermarket Mladost 15 mins walk for hotel - irish and scotch whiskey there is cheaper than in duty free ! In bars and restaraunts beer is good and really cheap, food is also not very expensvise and is very tasty! So despite of all-incl, we visited lots of restaraunts and were very happy.
The hotel guests are 1/2 Russians , and 1/2 Scandinavians. I think that scandinavian behaviour is bad, there even was a fight between totally drunk Norwegian guy who knocked the palma basket over, and security :)
So on the whole, the hotel is worth its price and I can recommend it for low budget holiday. Also if you have a long vacation, dont just seat there at hotel/beach - go take the car from rental agency and go through Bulgaria !! We went by this route: Sunny Beach - Kazanlak - Shipka - Veliko Tyrnovo and back , spent a night in V.Tyrnovo - great town!
