“Fab holiday!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

Just got home after a 2 week stay at Sun Village. It is an ideal spot away from noisy main stretch where there are loads of bars and restaurants, but close enough to walk into the night life very easily.
The apartments are spacious and clean to start the holiday. The beds are changed regularly (sheets not the best fitting!!) and you can have clean towels every day if you want them. Could have done with a sweeping brush to keep floors clean as the maids didn't clean the rooms but as I was there as a family I tidied and wiped kitchen and bathroom around to keep it clean (no hardship). The air- conditioning was fantastic, in fact we had to tun it off when we showered as it made us too cold!!!
It is apparently a 18-30 base for foreign teenagers but I must be honest we did not experience any problems with noise. The kids used to be out most of the night and the only time you saw them was late afternoon when they came to the pool. Some were a little bit rough when playing with balls in the pool which could be off putting if you have little kids. I would say the complex is more suited to families with teenagers as there is no organised activities or entertainment. We never had trouble getting sunbeds even as late as 10am.
Surprised to see people on the grass in the photos as there are notices every where telling you to keep off the grass!!! Restaurant on the complex was excellent and quite reasonable but we only used it for an occasional lunchtime snack. Some staff were struggling with the English language but we managed.
There was a bakery at the end of the street that sold tasty snacks and pizzas. The supermarket was close by and a lovely small supermarket close that sold a wonderful selection of fruit and vegetables.
We enjoyed going into the Mall where the night life was. It is extremely busy and our 16 year olds were in their element, it was buzzing there!!! The boys stayed with us most of the time but it it fantastic for teenagers. So many bars and clubs.
We found a fantastic restaurant called Boleros. If you go left out of gates down to bottom of the road and turn right its just down the road there. We were having 3 course meals for 4 of us with drinks for £40 - £60 with drinks. It was high quality food. I can recommend the Maine shrimps and sea bass and their creme brulee is out of this world!!!!
Sunny Beach is a very lively resort so if you want a quite holiday I would not recommend it. We had a fantastic time. We were 2 families of parents in mid 40s with 3 16 year old boys and we all enjoyed it for different reasons. Would definitely go back!!!!

I travelled in a group of four girls, we booked Bulgaria as we were told that it was a good destination to have a mix between relaxation and good night life!! We finally decided to book Sun Village apartments when we discovered that it was advertised elsewhere as club 18-30's, however when we arrived at the hotel this was not the case! After our second night on holiday we were asked to speak with the manager with regards to making too much noise, although we did not feel that we had made any excessive noise we went along to speak to the manager. The manager of the hotel was rude and was unwilling to talk or reason with any of us but instead treated us like children given us a 'warning' not to break the 'forbidden rule' of making noise after 12! We were polite and went along with what we were being told but we were shocked at how badly we were spoken to!

We later found out from other guests at the hotel that they had been accused of similar things and that they had been threatened with fines of 200 lev!! Once we started speaking with others we also learnt that the holiday was being double sold, firstly as a young and lively resort and also as a family hotel, this mix was apparent and made it very uncomfortable for both of the different parties to relax and enjoy their holiday!

Later on in the holiday we were woken up by the manager STANDING OVER OUR BED holding an eviction warning. We asked to come down to speak in the reception but the manager dismissed this by waving the notice in front of us. We refused to sign the letter until we had been given the opportunity to discuss what it was being issued for. As we would not sign the paper the manager stormed out of the room swearing at us. Ten mins later she returned and she explained that one of her members of staff has seen us 'naked and kissing' in the pool during the forbidden hours! THIS CERTAINLY DID NOT HAPPEN!! Again we refused to sign the letter and asked the manager to watch the CCTV. This was the last we heard about the matter so we can only assume that the manager did see the CCTV and realised that we had been falsely accused, however we did not receive an apology of any kind.

After this experience we had been so put off of the hotel that we decided to spend the remaining five days at the beach, (which was lovely) we literally then used the hotel to shower and to sleep! We all feel that this ruined our holiday as we feared that we would be evicted or fined if we stepped a foot out of place!

The food at the hotel was not great and our drainage in the bathroom was non existent, having any taps on caused flooding and overflows of filthy water, when we went to the manager about this matter she stated she was doing everything she could to get it fixed. When asked what she could do she stated 'nothing' and that 'we will have to bear with her to the end of the season when she will get it fixed!!' We explained that that would not benefit us as we would be gone and she pretty much said that not her problem!!! The manageress basically disclosed hat they hadn't been paid by our holiday company who WE had paid, so this is why they had given us the s**t apartment and probably why they refused to even move us. Not only a frustrating situation but kind of ruins your holiday. We would not recommend this hotel or ever consider visiting the hotel again!!

We travelled as a family but with late teens / early 20's "kids" - Bulgaria / Sunny Beach is ideal for them - definately wouldn't take little kids into the main area.

When we 1st arrived we thought we'd been dropped into the middle of nowhere - last off the bus and onto a very quiet road - the apartments are only a 5 - 10 minute walk from the main area of Sunny Beach though so that was good.

Check in was easy - we had been delayed so it was about 2 am so really quiet - and our room wasn't too hard to find - there are 3 blocks - a, b & c. We were a bit worried by the signs all over the place about fines for noise - especially no noise between 1400 - 1600 (eh???) and about coming back in after a night out and trying to be quiet - I'd read on here about people being fined - but we had no problems (even when one of our party drunkenly fell into a bush on the way back to the room at about 0400 and had to be helped up by security lol). Some girls in an apartment across from ours did get told off about making noise on the balcony late on - but I don't know if they were fined.

The apartment was great - very large, two seperate bedrooms and very large living area / kitchen. One of the bathrooms was en-suite - which my son & his girlfriend grabbed, our bedroom was at the other side of the apartment and my eldest son & his mate had the living area - even though the beds were set up in there for the entire week there was loads of room. Our balcony was amazing - we had a top floor, corner room and the balcony went right round the outside of it so we had sun constantly - with a large table & plenty of chairs. We had a couple of problems - the light in the en-suite didn't work and the shower in the main bathroom lost heat - but both problems were fixed quickly. The sheets on the bed were literally just "on" the bed - they were lay across the top of the mattress so moved when you did - a bit uncomfortable. Also the en-suite bedroom didn't have air con - so they were a bit more uncomfortable in there if they shut the doors.

The restaurant in the apartments sells really nice, reasonably priced food - we had a few lunches there - and there is a great little shop about 2 mins walk away which sells all self-catering essentials. There's also a great little restaurant on that road - Hotel Restaurant Deykin - the food was lovely and the staff were really friendly. Another good restaurant was Bistro Billy's - in the main area (near Iceburg nightclub) - we ate there a couple of times.

The pool area was clean, fairly quiet - no problem getting a lounger - but the pool was really cold and the loungers were just plastic ones - we bought a lilo to actually lie on. We actually started sun-bathing up on our balcony if we weren't going in the pool - we didn't find the "vibe" around the pool overly friendly - people stayed in their own groups without mixing much.

Overall the apartments were great and I would recommend them - they were far enough from the main area to be relaxed but near enough to get into there when you wanted to. We went to a few of the big hotels for pick-ups on way to the Airport but, although the hotels looked lovely, they were sort of "on top of each other" and seemed a fair bit out from the main area - we all said we were glad we'd been where we were.

Sunny Beach resort is definately for the late teens - mid / late 20's crowd - very loud, packed bars, lots of large "organised" bar crawls and the drinks are very generously poured!! We enjoy busy bars etc usually but felt way too old in the main area - the two lads had a brilliant time though. The main area is also full of Sex Shops & Erotic Shows - a bit odd to be handed flyers for them as you were on your night out - wouldn't have wanted to have young kids with me in amongst it all.

We enjoyed our break - we'd gone as a family for our silver wedding - and have come back nicely tanned (although the weather was very overcast for two days), relaxed and not penniless (we've all brought money back as everything was so cheap) but I doubt we'd head back there again - nothing wrong with the place really but much prefer long haul hols (we are off to Cuba in 3 weeks) - but I think the lads would definately plan to go there again.

I travelled in a group of 3 girls age 18-19, went to bulgaria because we heard it was cheap and a good time. It was also recommended to us by a friend who joined us in the second week of our holiday.
We arrived at Sun Village in the night time and we were impressed by the pool and lighting of the grounds. Getting our key was no problem, the reception staff spoke above average english. The lift to our building was a squeeze with all our luggage but no real issue there. Got into the room happy with what we saw, just like the pictures. Only thing we were unhappy with at that point was that the airconditioning for the lounge room (our second bedroom) didn't work properly and was uncomfortable to sleep in (wasnt fixed during our 2 week stay!).
In the morning waking up and stepping onto the balcony to the view of half built houses was a suprise especially when we saw people living in them! Not the best view but we didnt spend that much time out there so wasnt a big deal.
Getting out the hotel and getting to grips with the location and where everything was was no problem, we really liked the mixture of shops cafes bars and restaurants around the main strip and on the sea front. Saw a lot of familys around but have to admit would not reccomend for a family vacation! Only because For us the holiday was all about the night life, at night the main strip was heaving with young people looking for the best deals and definately not on their best behaviour! The prices were good expected (unless you eat on the main strip) our favourite club was 'iceburg'.
The hotel food was pretty standard, nothing fancy, we only ate in the hotel restaurant at lunch times as our room was self catering.
We struggled with the fact that the hob in our room couldnt fit 2 pans on it! also the hot water become scouldingly hot almost straight away. The bathroom was what you would expect apart from there was a small cupboard door above the toilet which kept opening without us touching it...we gathered it must be the same for all the rooms because once when ours was open, so was next doors so they could see through to us, which wasnt great at all.
The cleaning staff were very friendly but didnt do the best job. We found more often than not they didnt give us new toilet rolls. Also we had broken a glass on the balcony and that wasnt cleared up till we carefully moved the bits inside. We also had an issue with the aircon motor which was on the balcony as well. It started leaking at the end of our first week and flooded the balcony! we had to make a complaint about that to reception, her reply was 'i will call the man to see it, he may fix it, he may not.'
The pool area has no life guard but was really nice they cleaned the pool each night and we never had a problem getting a sunbed.
when we wanted to go outside of the resort to burgas the hotel supplied us with a driver for the whole day, her car was very nice but english was limited. She tried her best to guide and advise us on our day. We were very happy with this :)
Overall though the holiday was cheap and the things that went wrong didnt impact our time away at all. I would definately reccomend it for a cheap 18-30s type of holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are a lot quieter but the balconies are smaller

Sun Village Apartments are clean and well kept. Staff OK but not overly friendly. You get what you pay for; cheap and cheerful. You really do have to watch the staff though, the reviews are true that they will try and charge you for missing towels etc. at high prices, missing or not! The major disappointment was that these apartments are also let to a Dutch 18-30's company; the majority of the groups were boys who took over the pool from lunchtime onwards. They were extremely loud between 9pm and midnight when they went out and again when they returned any time after 4am! Some of the behaviours were not what you want young children to be exposed to and the staff admitted to being out of their depth in dealing with them.
We would defiantly visit Bulgaria again as everything was so cheap, but not Sunny Beach, we don't believe it to be suitable for young children. It is a loud and brash resort set up for the young un- attached generation!

This was our first (and last) visit to Sunny beach. The apartments were lovely - the shower could have been better, but once you got used to it - it did the job. The room (one bed apt) was large spacious and well equiped with air con. The kitchenette area had everything you need to cook if you wanted to (I did twice), the lounge had sofa bed, suite, tv and dining table and the double bedroom was huge. Think TV only had couple of english channels, but I dont go on holiday to watch tv so wasnt bothered. There was plenty of storage space and the double balcony stretched from lounge to bedroom. We were at the back of the apartments overlooking other apartments, but it wasnt a bad view. Would have been nice to get the sun there for a bit longer though. The pool was large, and even mid August was not overcrowded and beds were always available. My only gripe would be that the sunbeds are incredibly uncomfortable. A lot of people bought cheap lilos to lie on. We did not use the restaurant at the hotel at all so can't comment. The apartments are well located away from the madness of Sunny beach, but just a short walk away. There was no noise at night. There are several supermarkets within 10 minutes walk and smaller shops nearer. It probably takes a 20 minute stroll down the main strip to get to the beach. Didnt spend any time on the beach because it was overcrowded. Never seen anything like it really, beds right up to the waters edge, although it was mid Aug - may be different other times of the year. The apartments were great and I cant fault them, the smaller restaurants we ate in were pleasant but not as cheap as thought they would be and no memorable meals. Sunny Beach itself is charmless, devoid of any culture whatsoever, and basically just hotels, restaurants and tourist tat shops. No churches, museums, parks and open spaces, schools etc. It's just a tourist hub - which is great if that's what your looking for. The weather was fantastic - eating out wasnt overpriced - the waterpark at Nessebar was comparable to anything in Europe and States. I really wanted to like Bulgaria, but I dont feel I have even dipped my toe in the real Bulgaria. We spent an evening at Nessebar, but even that was just a sea of tourists all walking the same tourist mile with tourist tat shops and restaurants:( Maybe hiring a car would have left a different impression, but - horses for courses - Sunny Beach was not for me.

Room Tip: some of the rooms over looking the pool at the front had huge balconies

This was our second visit to Sunny Beach and we were at the other end from last year so werent sure what it would be like .Our apartment was in A block room A322 and it was a one bedroom apartment the bathroom could have been better ,it was in need of refurbishment but that was my only gripe .Towels were changed every day and cleaners were there every day too. The balcony was small but we had the sun on it nearly all day which was lovely. The pool was large and there was a childrens pool as well.My husband and I went on 28th august for two weeks and it was very peaceful ,some mornings we had the pool to ourselves. All in all a great relaxing holiday
