“Small and sweet!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013 via mobile

Pleasant hosts and wonderful, genuine SL food, really delicious dinner all freshly cooked. We had the first floor room, comfortable bed, simply furnished. Small, spartan bathroom not en suite, no hot water in the morning, no toiletries. Polished concrete floors and lovely interior garden patios, smart furniture and layout. Upstairs garden patio with table and chairs but this was locked by the time we came back from our stroll (although I'm sure they would have opened it again, if we'd asked). Lovely sitting room adjacent to our room. Local architecture to see and get a flavour of life here. The hotel beach was recommended, the public one could have been lovely but wasn't clean. Far enough away from the train line that runs immediately behind the big hotel here, Mount Lavinia. Nice for an overnight stay. Thanks to very gracious hosts.

Dear Sandwich_Sue,

Many Kind thanks for your Trip Advisor Review. It is greatly Appreciated. We pride ourselves on and take claim to serving some of the best Sri Lankan Food in the City.

We are also very glad you loved the Design and Style of Mount Lodge as much as we do.

Our Apologies for the problem with Hot Water. I do hope you were shown the Heater Switch in the Bathroom. This is now part of the Welcome process so should not be a problem in future.

Sorry also for the Garden Balcony being closed on your return in the evening. We generally close earlier to avoid mosquitoes. I have now also asked our manager to ensure that Gardens remain open, lit and setup for guests until they retire to bed. Extra Coils will be lit both inside and out as needed to control mosquitoes.

We recommend Mount Lodge for Arrivals, Departures and for anyone wishing to Explore the City of Colombo. We also own and operate a Garden Resort 'Nisala Arana' in Bentota for those looking for a calmer & more relaxing style of holiday only minutes from the Beach.

Mount Lodge is a great place away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo. Very quiet and well appointed, the house feels very welcome, and is well maintained. The couple taking care of the house - Padmini and his wife Gamini - are very helpful and accommodating. Do follow everyone's recommendation and try their hoppers for breakfast - you will not be disappointed!
The room and bathroom were clean and spacious. A few complimentary toiletries in the bathroom would have been nice though.

Our first stay in Sri Lanka was Mount Lodge. It was the perfect place to start the holiday, sync the body clock and explore the streets of Colombo.

The rooms were clean and tidy and the different terraces provide a perfect place to curl up with a good book. I love the design of building, that beautiful Sri Lankan architecture with the Mango Tree and Palms growing through the centre on the building.

The hosts were wonderful and definitely the best egg hoppers in Sri Lanka. Nothing was a hassle for them and they were available whenever you needed anything.

Mount Lodge is closely situated to the restaurants on the beach and the Mount Lavina Hotel if you wanted to use the pool.

I would highly recommend Mount lodge for the starting point of a Sri Lankan Holiday.

Spent 2 nights in mount lodge. It was peaceful and calm.It was luxurious , well designed.Great bedding comfortable beds. Our room was spacious with its own lounge and terrace. This was complimented by a fabulous breakfast. The hosts are attentive and discreet.
Would have loved to stay longer. My only criticism would be careful if you use there recommended driver as he was very expensive.

I stayed at this high-end B&B for 4 days of quiet. It is one of the most comfortable, attractive places I have stayed in and I struggled to leave. The 'standard' room is comfortable with fan and A/C. The bathroom (not attached to the room) was a bit small. The breakfast is delicious, the hoppers are the best. Mr. Gamini and his wife Padmini are just the right balance of welcoming and discreet, and for those with an eye for detail, the standard of cleanliness is outstanding; there is clearly a lot of effort that goes into making this cosy lodge both relaxed and very attractive. Given the level of comfort, beautiful room and superb breakfast, I really thought this was good value for money. Highly recommended for a weekend of peace.

We really loved staying here. It was so relaxing and comfortable. There are only a few rooms with living areas so is just like staying in a friend's house. The breakfast was absolutely delicious too. The only (slight) negative (as mentioned by another reviewer previously) is that the bathroom is completely open on one side (there is no wall or window but a void that goes through all the storeys of the house) so that we could hear people in the bathroom on the floor below us as well as the hosts downstairs in the kitchen. Anyway, as long as you don't mind not having privacy in the loo, you'll be fine!

Dear Traveler,

Your review is greatly Appreciated. Many Thanks for taking the time to forward your thoughts. We are planing a simple & stylish way to offer some privacy of sound between the bathrooms on the different levels. We plan to hang Bamboo blinds covered in Handloom Material that should offer some soundproofing and a better sense of privacy for guests in the Suite and Deluxe Rooms. We have also asked staff to kindly keep talking to a minimum in the Kitchen area.

We hope this will help and thanks again for bringing these points to our attention.

Hope to see you again at Mount Lodge soon and please also consider our Garden Resort 'Nisala Arana' on your next Holiday in Serendipitous Sri Lanka.

Kind Regards,

Benjamin Pereira

We only stayed one night, but it made an excellent impression on us. Mount lodge is a town house fairly close to the sea front with three or four rooms. It has three advantages. Our room was very comfortable with a very good bed, good space, en suite bathroom and a verhandah. Secondly the whole house had a sense of style. The architecture design enabled tall plants to go up three storeys so that the bathroom had something like a tree growing through it. The design also had a good sense of light. Thirdly, our hosts were absolutely brilliant friendly people. Fourthly they cooked us a great breakfast with probably the best hoppers we ate in SL. Fifthly, they recommended the next door restaurant which had excellent and stylish food. Finally, you could use the facilities of the heritage Mount Lavinia hotel with its excellent beach.
