“Perfect, with a slight bathroom design flaw.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

I travelled to Grand Forks with my husband and parents, the hotel was great. It was clean, modern and we enjoyed our stay.

The bathroom set up is a bit strange, there are separate closet like rooms, one for the toilet and a small sink, and the other for a large sink and shower. I think the idea was accessibility, but it turned out to be awkward with very little privacy. We all would have preferred a larger, standard set up for the bathroom. Another downside was the check in staff, unfriendly at best and not particularly knowledgeable (we asked a question about long distance calls and never did get clarification).

All of the negatives are weighed out by the pros, there is a great patio/fireplace area which is great for breakfast or in the evening for a drink. It’s like a private little patio. The hotel is fairly quiet too, there is just a small pool so I don't think too many families stay here and the beds are very comfortable.

Room Tip: Pick a room away from the elevator, and if possible not facing the outdoor patio.

It has been a while since I had stay at a Marriott hotel since they tend to be a bit overpriced. However, since the Springhill Suites in Grand Forks was about the same cost per night as the rest of my other favorites, I decided to give it a try. The Springhill is a newer hotel with very modern decor. The queen room was fairly spacious and clean. Every room has a small fridge, microwave and single cup coffeemaker. The pool is small and shallow but the water temperature was very comfortable. The overall features of this hotel are very satisfactory. Where they dropped they ball for me was at check-in. As a Marriott card holder, I had requested an early check-in on my reservation. I realize that this is not guaranteed but when I initially tried to check in at 12:30, I was told to come back in an hour and a room should be available by then. When I returned at 1:45, I was told that the nothing had been updated and housekeeping was "on break" making it impossible to check on room status. (Here's a suggestion, maybe update your work BEFORE you go for your smoke? ) In the end, my early check-in turned out to be 2:30 - whoohoo!

My husband and I stayed in this hotel last year as well and it was our "go to" for our trip this year as we are Marriott Rewards Card holders. The Springhill Suites hotel in Grand Forks is a well-run hotel that offers a hot breakfast including bacon, ham or sausage and eggs, waffles, fruit, yogurt, muffins, orange and apple juices and coffee, etc. The service maids are always accommodating when you ask for fresh towels, etc. and the rooms are kept in a very clean state. The bed, as last year, was very comfortable and we never hear a noise from outside of the room. The rooms also have a microwave, coffee maker (although there is always fresh coffee available on the main floor by the breakfast area) and a small refrigerator. The exercise room is small but good. The location of this hotel is great and not far at all from the Columbia Mall and there are lots of places to eat and shop! The rooms are modernly decorated and the LCD flatscreen TV's are a good size and will swivel between the bed or sitting areas. We always enjoy staying here and the room rates are excellent!!!

We stayed a single night for a quick get away to the US. The check in was quick and professional. The king room had plenty of space. It was laid out well and quite comfortable. The decor was modern and colourful but not gaudy.

The room just had a shower and no tub. It was large and functioned well but left out the option for a soak. The room was quiet for both internal and external noise. Stayed on the parking lot side, so no idea how noisy the interstate side would be.

Breakfast off the lobby was adequate but nothing special. There is no restaurant/bar but there are lots close by. Wifi functioned well and was no problem to connect. An overall satisfactory experience and we would recommend it.

Overall the the main lobby and Continental Breakfast was very nice. Beds and pillows great.

One problem with Hotels is that there are never enough PLUG-INS. There should have been a light above the large mirror next to the HVAC Unit so that another person could have used that area. As in most hotels your venting system in the ceiling does not work. Yes there is a vent there but not very efficient.

The room however was not vacuumed as there was black sock lint all over the floor. When the iron was removed for use there were clothing tags stuck in the iron holder.
The Sofa and the Bolster Pillows were dirty.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

We went for a one night mini vacation to grand forks in June 2012.

I booked on hotels.com and had less than a minute check in (FAST!). the place has ample parking, is quite spacious rooms (we had a king size suite) and modern decor.

My only con was I found the bed a bit hard but my husband said it was good (better than other places we have stayed).

THe room amenities are wonderful - a sitting area seperated from the bed with a desk, ample room for a family to sit and enjoy tv. There is a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker in the room, as well as an ipod dock for music. The rooms do not have outdoor access on main floor so we did have to go through the lobby with our items.

The toilet has its own room and sink, seperate from the spacious walk in shower.

The pool area is ok - hot tub is small and so is the pool. My husband found the hot tub too hot. I enjoyed the gym - which is wonderfully equiped with two ellipticals and two treadmills that are new and have their own tv with headphone jack. THere was also a flat screen and music speakers for those using their free weight area. Enough to stick to a program while on vacation.

The continental breakfast is the best I have seen! there was waffle station, bagels, toast, muffins, oatmeal (*a big pot of it - not instant!) with fruit, yogurt, cereal, cheese omellets, and turkey bacon! Enough choices that everyone will be satisfied. There is also coffee and hot water (also decaf coffee) 24/7 in the lobby so that was nice and a concession stand for thos elooking for a snack late at night.

Room Tip: we were on the main floor - it was quiet and spacious and no funky smells!
