“Thin Walls and Uninviting Rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

Pros: Bathroom was clean, shower was fine. Had internet. Service was friendly.

Cons: I had to get a different room right off the bat, as the first had a leaky a/c and a slight odor. While the second room was better, the walls were so thin! I could hear everything, from people walking on the floor above, to the noises in the parking lot outside, and the ice machine down the hall. I was woken multiple times during the night by loud noises. Also, the room itself was rather dark and uninviting.

Clean room and comfortable beds. There usually is a small refrigerator, but they were all on recall, and not replaced yet. We were informed of this when checking in. Staff very friendly and helpful in suggesting a restaurant - although there's a Pizza Hut, Subway and another sandwich shop just across the street. Adequate hot breakfast. Will stay again. No elevators - a few steps down to 1st floor and a few steps up to 2nd floor, and another flight of steps to 3rd floor. Easy to find from freeway exit.

Room Tip: If you have problems with steps, suggest asking for 1st or 2nd floor. There are about 6 or 7 steps...

First I would like to say the two girls who were staffing the desk were really nice, friendly and did try to help and make me happy. However, I had asked ahead of coming here to try to get on the first floor so I did not have to use steps and was told, yes I could have a first floor room. The place is split level, i.e. steps. When I came in, I could easily hear the people above me walking across the floor. I turned on the TV and then I could not change the channel or the volume. I asked for new batteries, but that did not help. They came back again and tried a different remote, but again it did not work, so the only way to use the TV was by doing it manually. One of the beds was not level at all and clearly the mattress had not been turned in years. The room is very basic and reasonably clean, but the carpet is old, or at least kind of dirty. The clothing rack next to the TV is far from level and the same goes for the towl holding rack. This place should not be rated with two diamonds by AAA, otherwise their standards have slipped severely. I do not recommend staying here, as for the price, there are better places within hundreds of feet!

Room Tip: Do not stay here.

This is a Super 8 that's been around for a while but it seemed to be very well maintained and run. Breakfast room was a little crowded at the prime breakfast time but the food choices were good (waffles and eggs), and the room functional and quiet. It's a good lower priced alternative in Bismarck.

Just a typical Super 8, but the last time I stayed there, I could tell the place has been updated as well as new management staff. Had a 'minor' glitch with my last booking there but the manager went above and beyond and it was taken care of by the time I checked out.

Not sure why there's so many negative reviews for this hotel... The rooms were very modern and clean. The bed was comfortable and passed the bedbug inspection! The free breakfast was great! Fresh sausage and waffles. Corine, the breakfast attendant was working very hard and was very friendly! She definitely deserves a promotion. Considering most of the hotels in Bismarck are a lot more expensive, the Super 8 is a great value.
