“Great location, great southern hospitality, and great service.”

Great place to stay when visiting this area. The location is perfect when visiting Old Salem and the city of Winston-Salem. This bed and breakfast gave my wife and I exactly what we would expect for this type of Inn.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the inn. We have many wonderful guests who visit us from Ohio, and hope you return in the near future.

Our visit to Old Salem was nice enough but this Bed & Breakfast has some issues:

16" diagonal tv with a remote that did not work and was replaced the second day.
No newspapers.
Water tepid at best, after letting it run and run, it never got hot: could not shower.
One tiny window with a view of a fence
Single ply toilet tissue.... really!
The handle fell off the sink... which I notice was mentioned in other reviews as well.
Parking is on the street and it is a chore getting your suitcases etc into you room, and when you get your stuff in your room... there ain't no place to put it.
Breakfast served as if you needed a ration card... tiny portions meted out parsimoniously

And now for the outright lies...
The web site said Queen size bed but it was a regular sized bed and very uncomfortable.
The web site makes the room we rended look large but it is actually 16' x 12'
---we were in the Gunpower Room: check it out on their web site and see if you think the picture is an honest depiction of a 16'x12' room.... we felt lied to
The web site puts whipped cream on a cow pie and that is not a good thing.

The two ladies on site, Linda and Sherrie are part owners and while they were nice enough, they certainly were more about taking care of their property than their clients.

Room Tip: If it is Old Salem location you want, this place is perfect. But other than location, this place is...

We stayed at the Zevely Inn last night. The Inn and the location were great - in the heart of Old Salem - very charming. The Inn Keeper was not very friendly at all. She scolded us twice - once for trying to take a muffin to our room for breakfast and once for sitting at a table in the dining room instead of the breakfast room where all the tables were already taken. She seem really perturbed with us - Where is the Southern Hospitality?

If you want to enjoy Old Salem and the Tavern across the street you can't beat the location. As for service and facilities, far from perfect. The B&B is historical, which is great, but historical and not maintained is a big difference. We had sink handles falling off, sink would not drain, a/c can't easily adjust. For the breakfast side of the B&B, they are strict that breakfast doesn't start till 8:00, not 7:45 when we were getting ready to leave, but 8:00. However, we could hear them start to fix breakfast at 5:00am, banging dishes to let you know they started and if there you were not sure the owners managed to set off the smoke detector at 5:30am to let you know they were fixing the breakfast you could not have till 8:00am. We won't be back.

A group of us were there for several nights when visiting Old Salem. Charming old house and you just walk out the front door into the heart of Old Salem. Delicious breakfasts. Linda, the innkeeper was a fount of helpful information. We would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: The Doctor's room on the second floor was large (bath small) and very comfortable.

A lovely really old building in Old Salem. We were greeted and booked in efficiently and allocated our room. It was a bit of a trek up a couple of flights of outside stairs and porches to the room. the room was comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. Breakfast is continental style.

If you are a history buff and looking for a trip with a focus on the History of Winston Salem and you just need an “OK” place to rest your head, then this is a nice spot, for the furniture, art, etc. is of an old Salem collection and It is located in what is called the historic district of Old Salem. As for customer service, the innkeeper that greeted us was a delightful woman that had interesting stories to share with a warm personality. When we got in the room, it was smaller than what the picture indicated on the website, but its charm quickly elevated the disappointed, for the three of us were excited about the jet steam tub with a steam shower, however, when we tried to use it, that night after a somewhat stressful incidents with the local cab taxi service, it was a big letdown when it did not work. When I brought it to the attention to the morning shift innkeeper, in a not so friendly response she said, “I know that is why we do not advertised on the website. When arrived it would have been nice to know then. Secondly, one my friends traveling with us was experiencing some health challenges. When I went downstairs to fix a continual style breakfast to take up to her, the morning shift innkeeper was not very accommodating and slightly rude, for I found myself having to plead with her in an emotional manner in the presence of other guest, assuring her we would be careful. My judgment may be somewhat jaded, with over a dozen stays at other B&Bs in the south, but it was a letdown , since this was a first experience of a bed and breakfast with one of the guest among the three of us. Again, if you are visiting Winston Salem strictly for tourism, and uninterested in spending time at the Bed and Breakfast for rest and relaxation then it is an OK place to stay.
