“An historic and comfortable inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

I hope my friends remain in Winston-Salem, so i have a reason to return to the Zeverly Inn B&B. We stayed in a lovely room with a fireplace, where we entertained our friends in the evening and had our first cups of coffee in the morning. Although the inn is historic, it is modernized and pristine. Its location is in the historic district of Old Salem and adjacent to Salem College, where we took a wonderful night time walk. Breakfast was first rate. The inn-keeper, Linda, provided a warm and gracious welcome and insights into local history-old and recent.

Room Tip: The Winter Kitchen room has a gas fireplace and private location.

Our first visit to Old Salem. Wanted to stay close to things & thought this would be a good choice. Not at all disappointed. Able to walk to everything in the area along with good food across the street at the tavern.
Inn keeper Linda was very friendly & provided extra information on things in the area. Very nice room & lovely place overall. Only stayed one night, but plan to return. We were there Nov 14th, so colors were gone but oh so peaceful in the town.

A wonderfully restored home from the 1800's turned in to a charming B&B makes a great place to stay for a modest price and includes a freshly made breakfast. This is a quiet homey place with access to the home, grounds,, veranda,etc.. It is in the heart of the historic district and is perfect for that get-away weekend.

We had not visited Old Salem in years, although we actually like it better than Colonial Williamsburg. We had always gone there before on day trips, but since it was the week of our anniversary, decided to stay at the Augustus T. Zevely Inn for a couple of nights. From the moment we walked in, we were enchanted by this beautiful, historical inn. We were welcomed immediately by Linda, the kind and gracious innkeeper, who checked us in and showed us to our room on the second floor. We love history, and it was truly like stepping back in time to stay here, right in the middle of Old Salem. We arrived a little too late to visit any of the shops, and my husband had forgotten to purchase a few Cokes to have on hand for later. To our surprise, Linda bought an eight-bottle pack and gave them to us - would not let us pay for them! Linda and Cherie, the inn's chef, were the most wonderful hostesses ever. Cherie's deluxe continental breakfasts were fantastic - homemade muffins and granola, coffee cakes, fresh fruit and more. The coffee was out-of-this-world - I never drink four cups of coffee at any meal, but I did at these breakfasts. And Linda's homemade chocolate chip cookies were the best we had ever eaten! Since this was the middle of the week, there were not many guests, and the four of us sat at our breakfast table and talked for two hours afterwards! Although this inn is very special, these two ladies made it more so. We loved this trip so much we bought a membership for Old Salem and plan to return to the Augustus T. Zevely Inn as soon as we can - it is truly an unique experience to stay here.

Room Tip: We loved our room (Lucinda Bloom) and it was only $100 per night - an unbelievable rate for such a n...

I have stayed at many B&B's in Nc and this one is delightful and full of charm. The history of Old Salem is all around and the Zeveley Inn is right in the middle of it all. The Tavern across the street is the icing on the cake. Highly recommend.

This is such a nice, friendly, quiet place to stay. Linda Anderson is super helpful with any information you might need. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are immaculately clean. And the breakfasts...yummmm. Linda makes homemade granola and muffins everyday. Cherie, the breakfast cook makes the most delicious egg dishes, biscuits and other items. They accommodated my vegetarian no-caf diet with ease. I stayed here for a week and felt like I was coming home each day..it really is that warm and friendly. Both of these women know the area very well and can answer any questions you might have. Ohhh...did I mention homemade cookies in the afternoon? Don't pass this place up...it is perfect.

Don't be put off by the negative ratings, most of which date back years.

Not very prepossessing from the outside, the interior of this charming b&b is a delight to behold. We were on a tight schedule so didn't have a lot of time to spend in the beautifully furnished drawing room. Linda, the innkeeper, gave us a very warm welcome and was very attentive to her guests' needs and a mine of information. There were a lot of nice touches, such as tea or coffee constantly on tap in the breakfast room, and dishes of sweets and tempting cookies displayed in the public areas for guests could help themselves.

Minor quibbles, we would have preferred to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room. And, as avid readers, we would have appreciated lamps on either side of the bed.

This apart, I would certainly recommend the inn and the wonderful Tavern across the street where we ate dinner on both nights. And Old Salem itself is unmissable.
