Description: Red Hot and Blue is a full-service, casual-themed restaurant chain and caterer featuring delicious award-winning ribs, Memphis-style barbeque, smoked wings, and Southern sides and desserts. The atmosphere is steeped in legendary and contemporary blues music and delivers a large dose of Southern hospitality in a fun and entertaining dining environment. History: The first Red Hot and Blue restaurant opened in Arlington, Virginia in 1988, started by Lee Atwater, Don Sundquist and friends. Don Sundquist was from Memphis and served in the House of Representatives and as governor of Tennessee. The late Lee Atwater was an amateur blues musician and political figure that managed George H.W. Bush's successful race for the presidency. These men were friends who longed for authentic Memphis-style barbeque and great blues music. Unable to find that combination anywhere in the Washington, DC area they decided the only way to get it done was to open a restaurant of their own. The Memphis-style barbeque chain celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2013 by partnering with a charitable organization at 24 different restaurant locations. The yearlong celebration culminated in the presentation of thousands of dollars in donations to local charities. The Name: The name, "Red Hot and Blue" is taken from the title of D.J. Dewey Phillip's radio show that that aired on WHBQ-AM in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950s. This radio show launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash and broadened the audience for artists such as BB King, Muddy Waters, Robert Cray and Rufus Thomas. Red Hot & Blue Dine-In, Take-Out and Catering. Hickory-smoked Memphis-style BBQ, Ribs, Wings, Beef Brisket, Smoked Chicken, Seafood, Full-service Bar, in a Family-friendly atmosphere with a heapin' helpin' of Southern Hospitality!

“Consistently Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

I went to Red Hot & Blue again last Sunday and ate with a group of friends after church. I had the chicken ceasar salad which was quite good although I've had better dressings. My husband had an "All-in" burger and couldn't say enough good things about it. He got to take half of it home because it was so big. Relaxed, casual atmosphere was good for our group.

“Never even made it to eat.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Customer service is very important and after I called to ask a question I decided to not even go. I marked the food as excellent because that is all I have heard about there food. However after speaking to Nicole (management) and her being very short with me I decided not to even visit the resturant, because if the leadership doesn't care I'm sure the staff doesn't either. Wish I could have written a review about how great there food was.

“First customers the morning after a Thursday night Football Game.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

We stopped by this place on our way out of town the day after the Clemson-Wake Forest Game. We were the first customers that morning, so the service couldn't have been any better. Two of us got the same thing. The "All-In" burger which was a hamburger topped with pulled pork and onion straws. It was really good as was my okra. No complaints from any of us. Good bbq foods and quick service.

“Poor quality food and RUDE Staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We ordered chicken. The chicken was under cooked and was actually bloody inside. The cook said it was cooked to 160 degrees. Everyone knows that chicken is dangerous to eat unless cooked to 180 degrees. This place is FOOD POISONING waiting to happen. I will never eat at another Red Hot and Blue!

Sylvia L, Guest Relations Manager at Red Hot & Blue, responded to this review, November 7, 2012
Our chicken is cooked to 165 degrees which many experts consider a sufficient internal temperature. Our cooking procedure clearly outlines that chicken must be cooked to 165 degrees. Due to the smoking method we use, it is normal for the inside of the chicken to appear pink, but it should never be bloody. I'm sorry that your chicken was undercooked. I will personally ask the restaurant manager to go over the proper cooking procedure with all his cooks so this doesn't happen again. Thanks for your feedback.

“Good food and atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

The Red Hot & Blue is conveniently located close to the BB&T Field and Wake Forest University. You can walk to it from a couple of hotels as well, so is good if you are attending a football game or at a hotel and do not want to drive anywhere. I was somewhat surprised that there were not more people there after the football game, but than again there were not that many people at the game either.

There are a few seats outside, but given the time of year no one was out there. There is a small bar area, but it is not that inviting. There were plenty of seats in the dining area, and the walls are adorned with blues memorabilia. TVs are also along the wall showing different sporting events when on.

The menu is large enough to give you an option. The food came out quicker than I expected and was of good quality. The waitress came by several times to make sure if I needed anything. The only odd thing and a little unnecessary was the bill coming a couple of minutes after the food.

I would recommend the restaurant for a quick, convenient meal. It is what you can expect from any chain restaurant. Just be careful of their hours before you go. The latest they are open is 10:00pm on FRI-SUN, closing at 7:00pm on Sundays.
