“Gorgeous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2014

This is actually right next to Old Salem and a must see. My Dad and Grandmother as well as many friends are laid to rest in God's Acre. It is the most beautiful sight Easter Sunday. All the grave stones are alike and laid in the ground. It is where the huge Sunrise Service on Easter morning is held every year. Stop by and enjoy the beauty while you are visiting Old Salem and having the delicious chicken pie at the Salem Tavern.

“All equal in God's sight--and in God's Acre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

An amazing sight to see, all headstones flat with men and women buried separately on a rolling hillside. Beautiful sight on a sunny day and very well tended.

“A place of reflection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

A beautiful place to walk and reflect on life, it's extremely large and solemn. The way the trees grow looks like they are pulling the last remaining life out of the ground.

“Interesting if You Like to Roam Old Cemeteries”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

This is an interesting place to spend time if old cemeteries fascinate you the way they do me. This Moravian burial ground is unique. The most striking thing was that the headstones were all flat symbolically expressing the equality of individuals before God. The other thing that was noteworthy was that the Moravians were buried by their choir (group). As such, the graves of men and women were separated and there were general age groupings as well. The oldest graves were from the early- to mid-1700s. All of the tombstones were legible making the experience optimally interesting. If you are the type to enjoy a cemetery stroll, make sure to take a walk through this place. It not only provided interesting reading that took my mind back a couple of centuries, it was also a subtle cultural lesson concerning a group that not many understand.

“Very interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

Seems strange to be rating a cemetery but this was a very interesting place. This the burial ground for the Moravian community. All of the tombstones are the same...men and women and children are buried in separate areas...etc. I did not know much about this religion before visiting Old Salem and it was very interesting.
