“It's a kennel but I wouldn't let my dogs stay there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2010

This was our second stay in a Microtel Hotel and NOT an indictment of ALL of their hotels. Check the room BEFORE you rent, if you prebook you could lose.
I refer to this hotel as the "don't care" hotel. Front desk "don't care" if you stay or not. House keeping "don't care" if your room is clean and they "don't care" if the dogs that are allowed to stay they leave a strong smell.
First room stunk like a kennel, advised the clerk and was given another room. Second room had faint room until the heater warmed the room up. Then it stunk like a kennel too. Free wireless signal was weak and unconnectable but the staff "don't care". Pulled back the wrinkled sheet to find pubic hairs and a dirty footprint on the lower sheet. The bathroom tub had a rust stain going down from the spigot to the drain. The light switch in the bathroom was not even wiped clean!
If you "don't care" then this is the place for you.

traveling from florida to NJ, i spent the night here just off I95. it had inside corridors and was roomy and clean. it was only 2 stories so i don't think it had an elevator. the breakfast was typical with a waffle maker. if you stop at the state rest/welcome center, you can get books with discount coupons for some motels-i got a good deal for this one. there is a cluster of motels at this exit with only fast food or a cracker barrel (which gets busy) for dining. it was perfect for an overnight stop.

The hotel advertized in two publications for hotels on I95 in North Carolina that 1-4 people could stay there Sunday- Thursday for a rate of $39.99 + tax. When I presented the published coupon at the desk it was not accepted.
As I drove up to the hotel they had an electronic sign that advertized a room with a queen sized bed at a rate of $44.99. Having refused my coupon I asked for the rate posted on their electronic board. My wife and I were refused that also with the explanation that that rate was only for one person, not two.
Having been on the road for many hours and not wanting to continue our road trip in the dark, we ended up paying $60. 43 for our night's stay.

We stopped overnight enroute to Florida, and had not read the reviews. They might have dissuaded us. However, this hotel is udergoing renovations, which may now be finished, and was very nice. The rooms were spacious, very comfortable and impeccably clean. The continental breakfast was more than adequate. The only problem we had was that one of the rooms (two couples travelling together) smelled strongly of carpet adhesive from the newly installed flooring, but a request for a different room was immediately handled.

I was in Wilson for a wedding and the Bride referred me to Microtel because it was a good price. And she said they had just built it a couple years ago. As soon as we walked in the room it reeked of smoke but that wasn't a big deal. The beds looked good. We like that it had a mirror across the wall. Then we looked at the bathroom and we couldn't believe the it. The tub was dingy with black stains and rust. So we went back to the front desk for another room and it was the same so we just decided to stay in the first room and just go buy some clorox. When we came back my friend turned on the shower and brown water came out so we let the fronk desk clerk know and the first thing she asked is if we let the water run as if she already knew of the problem. Never again will I stay at any Microtel anywhere even though people told me that they are not all the same. Oh yeah the continental breakfast is crap all they had was muffins, coffee, and orange juice. We ended up going to McDonalds.

We actually didn't STAY at this place. We walked out five minutes after we walked in!!! We came in and requested a non-smoking room for two adults two children. We requested non smoking because one of the kids has respiratory allergies. However, when we went up to the room, it reeked of smoke! On top of that, the whole second floor (and the room iteslf) was under renovation. The walls did not have the final coat of paint on them (you could see the spackle) and no wall hangings, nothing. They must have been working in there, because even the carpet had remnanIt was even below your basis "economy inn." Even the a/c in the corridor wasn't working. We went down and immediately reported the horrible conditions to the clerk on duty, who gave us another room --but guess what? Same thing. Apparently the workers were smoking while they were working, and due to the (ongoing) renovations, the rooms were definitely not as clean as they should have been. We ended up going downstairs and telling them we wouldn't stay in such a smoke-filled place, and reporting to them how dirty the two rooms were and telling them never mind, we're not staying. Guess what? When we got back home, we found out that they had CHARGED OUR CREDIT CARD for a stay --even though we'd only been there five minutes and went down and told them of the filty conditions of the room and asked for a credit; when we phoned about what we believed was an "error" we were told that the the room had to be cleaned, and that WE must have messed up the room and so they were charging us for it!!!!! All we had done was walked in the room, smelled the smoke and saw the horrible conditions and went immediately back downstairs to report it. We called the manager, the owner, the corporate office, etc... and each one passed the buck. Bottom line, it is now in dispute and they aren't getting paid. But what nerve. We stayed in 12 different hotels/motels in the past few months and never a problem, and we have never had to dispute a charge for a hotel room. I can't believe they would have the audacity to charge us for a room that was so dirty we refused to stay in it --and then accuse US of making the very mess we went down to report. AVOID MICROTEL, and this place in particular. Use any other place but this one. Dishonest crooks!

  • Liked — It was close to the exit ramp to escape from the highway
  • Disliked — Smoke in non-smoking rooms, construction debris in rooms, overall "dumpy" place

This was our first overnight stop on our way to a month long Florida vacation. I had read reviews on this website. Some were good, some were bad. My husband was impressed with the super low overnight price that we saw in a coupon book when we entered North Carolina. I was hesitant, but agreed to check out a first floor room. The motel is in the middle of renovation and only half the rooms have been redone. The one we got had been updated. The bathroom was very modern and clean. In general, we were satisfied with the accomodations for our one night stay. Breakfast was so so. A Cracker Barrel restaurand was nearby, so it would have been easy just to walk over to it and eat breakfast there.
