“OMG!!!!! Be afraid, be very afraid!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2009

We wanted a room for one night while we visited the local beaches and this is all we could find at the price we could afford on our budget at last minute. First, once you arrive you can immediately tell that this is an older building in need of remodeling. We shrugged it off because we were tired from the trip and went to check in. I had booked the room at travelodge.com and was just glad to have a place to rest. The person behind the desk looked like Shaggy from Scooby Doo and acted as if he didn't know what he was doing or was probably high, who knows? He kept saying "groovy, man". Anyway, we were given our key cards and went to room 118. Once inside, first thing we noticed was a HUGE moth on the window curtain. We had to kill it because it refused to move, looked as though it was at home. Second thing we noticed was the musty smell. Then we found some rather mysterious sticky spots on the carpet. We immediately heard this annoying beeping sound and soon discovered that the microwave was stuck on the number 1 and you couldn't get it to stop beeping so we unplugged it. The ice machine was on the other side of the building and it was VERY NASTY!! The small refrigerator was a joke! There wasn't a control knob inside and it took forever to get cold. The bathroom area was a little small but it was adequate for our one night stay. The shower pressure was really good. The telephone was located on top of the little stand where the refrigerator and microwave was and was unplugged. We ordered pizza for supper and had to plug it in to call for the delivery. The remote for the television had to be shaken to get it to work, but once on the tv had good channels and reception. The wireless internet was very spotty. It came a downpour and the parking lot flooded rather quickly. It was rather noisy all around us but thank goodness we were so tired by the time we went to bed. Thank goodness for the earplugs I packed!! The next morning we went to the office to check out. Shaggy wasn't there but was replaced by what seemed to be a man of Middle-eastern or Indian descent. He was so busy chatting it up with two women in there, he hardly noticed me turning in the keycards. The "Bear Bites" breakfast area is very small and there was cereal, apple and orange juice, milk, and danishes. The danishes we had were so stale and the only thing that was good was the juice. We then hurried up out of there!! I will NEVER go there again! If we hadn't been so weary from the trip, we would have demanded a refund and slept in the car. I had never stayed on Market Street in Wilmington before and in places it looked very seedy and unsafe. I hope the other local motels are better than this!

I am in a band and my collegues and I travel a lot. We are doing some recording work in Wilmington and will now be staying at THE TRAVELODGE from now on. We were staying at a hotel down the street. This one is much cleaner though, and they have remodled. We enjoyed, the staff was very courteous and looked out for us on a holiday weekend. We thought it was clean, and there was no loitering in the parking lot like you see at other hotels. Bob and his staff were very nice to us!!!!

the room was clean. but, i booked based on the online profile that said the rooms had access to wifi and hbo. neither were true. i called the reception to help with the internet problem and was told that the travelodge connection is "sketchy" at best. that meant it did not work in our room. i booked at travelodge.com because it was the best advertised online price and it would have been cheaper to just show up. when i tried to check in at 4pm the office was locked, and i had to wait about 20 min. when i wanted to check out at 7am the office was unlocked, but there was no attendant. i often travel to wilmington, i won't stay here agin.

Being a poor student, sketchy hotels are not a new thing for me. The Travelodge wasn't the dirtiest, or scariest hotel that I have ever stayed in, but it was the most insect laden. Sure the decor was dated, the bathroom was moldy, and I am positive that somebody had kicked the door in a few times, but when you stay at the lowest priced places you can find, you learn to deal with these things. What I wasn't ready to deal with, was the fact that I would be spending the night with a horde of roaches. I learned the hard way that the little black specks covering most stuff near the sink and in the bathroom were cockroach droppings. At first I thought the 4 inch gap under the door that leads directly outside was weird, but then I realized it was to let the roaches outside at night to forage. Well, I suppose they didn't really need to go outside to find food, since they had yet to finished off the moldy coffee grounds that were in the coffemaker. On a positive note, taco bell is across the street.

  • Liked — Cheap, didn't need a reservation for a last minute stay
  • Disliked — Roaches!

We've stayed in many "low" end hotels, but this was the absolute worst. The shower curtain was moldy, the rug worn and frayed, and light fixtures didn't work. Housekeeping came at 10am on Sunday and my husband asked them to please come back later; she responded by rolling her eyes! We immediately checked out even though we had pre-paid for that night. BUT, management was very pleasant and accommodating.

These rooms were terrible! The carpets look dirty, the outside is dirty. the sink and bathrooms were disgusting. "wow," was all i said when i walked in. The paint is peeling out of the sink and there was hair and all kinds of stains on the sink and counter. The towels they provide are not much to look at. I would recommend bringing your own. If you're looking for a cheap hotel, don't be afraid to pay the extra $20. It would definately be worth it.
