We arrived in the morning after a red eye flight from the West Coast with a very tired 9 month old (wouldn't suggest it), we were met with locked doors and no one inside. The note on the front door said to call and they would meet us for early check in. After a quick returned phone call, we were met at the front door by the daughter of the owners. Quickly got us into our room and started to work on restaurant options for us (my wife being vegan). We were immediately impressed with the lofted room with exposed brick and a great view. Out for a quick lunch and a drive around the city we found our way back to the Inns parking lot. (on Front Street and free parking!) We were again met by (sorry we forgot your name but you were awesome) the daughter of the owners who had been phoning friends and friends of her parents to find us a decent restaurant with vegan options.....and she had a list. Dinner was great, bed was enormous, room was super clean and quiet. We returned one week later for our flight back to the West Coast and found my wife's toiletries that she had left behind in our room...
Another great room with a super comfy bed...
AND THEY ALLOW CHILDREN!!

Room Tip: Any....all nice

This Inn was a charming renovated warehouse updated with modern decor and amenities. We were greeted by one of the owners and given a tour and taken to our room. Very comfortable and perfect location near downtown and the riverwalk. We will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Loved room 4 king bed with some river/downtown view. Apparently room 7 is bigger with more of a ri...

While on a big family trip on Topsail Island my husband and I decided to take a mini trip to Wilmington. Once we got there and walked by the Stemmerman's Inn we decided to get a room. We were pleasantly surprised. It was very modern and beautifully decorated and had the finest linens and a comfortable bed. We make the trip to Topsail almost every year. We will definitely be hitting up the Stemmerman's Inn again in the future.

I haven't written a review before but after seeing some of the bad reviews Stemmermans has had I felt I wanted to comment on our stay. I would have no hesitation in recommending Stemmermans to anyone, the rooms are fantastic; loft-style with lots of character. The room and bathroom were immaculately clean. We did our research before going and liked what some people have seen as a negative; that we could come and go as we pleased as if it was a home away from home. I can see why some people would find this a negative but for us it was perfect and unlike other reviewers we were greeted by extremely friendly and helpful staff and saw them throughout our visit; nothing was too much trouble for them from extra towels, extra muffins and restaurant recommendations. We were 2 young women travelling together and we felt completely safe at all times, we saw no graffiti or homeless people near the Inn.
The location is excellent and unlike other reviewers we didn't hear any noise, apart from when we were on the communal balcony which overlooks the Cape Fear river, when we could hear the live music from the restaurant next door, but we saw this as a positive!
If you want an authentic, character-filled place to stay, with staff who are friendly and approachable, look no further!

My boyfriend and I really loved our stay at Stemmerman's - the location is perfect, and made it possible to see all of downtown Wilmington on foot, and convenient enough so that anytime we needed to pop back in the room for a break or change of clothing, it was no big deal. The rooms are more like NYC lofts than they are to cookie-cutter hotel rooms, so if you're looking for more of a boutique-hotel type experience than you are a standard Holiday Inn style room, definitely consider staying here. We felt like we were staying in someone's home, and appreciated the thoughtful touches such as a cozy blanket for the couch and juice and muffins in the mini-fridge. Due to its central location, music from nearby restaurants/reception spaces can be heard, but just as background noise, which I thought was kind of charming. If I'm ever lucky enough to go back to Wilmington, I'll definitely be staying here again.

Very close to downtown---could hear the music from the clubs nearby--ok if you are young.
Too many stairs to climb--35 up 35 down--no elevator
Below our room #4 on Sat there was a reception and it vibrated the walls and floor--no sleep until they were gone.
Clean rooms, no view of the river
Wi-fi very slow.

I stayed at the Stemmermans Inn for one night, as a getaway with my fiancé. The first impression was ok. We were met by a nice lady at the reception who led us up to our room. It looked nice and clean, except that the lights in the bedroom was not working. We got settled in and my fiancé went to the bathroom. After a while he came out and told me to come in there and look. After he'd flushed and washed his hands the water in the basin was yellow! It was probably (hopefully) the water from the tap, but sill - YELLOW! The plumbing was a huge problem. Every time we flushed it took up to 6(!!) hours for the water to go back to a normal level. At one point my fiancé had to cut the water to the toilet to stop it from running over. It was horrible!!

When we checked out we told the lady who was there about the plumbing issues, that it was not acceptable to charge that much money for a room like that. All she said was "It's an old building. What did you expect?! There are lots of similar places around Wilmington. Try a different one next time." What?!?! What kind of service is that??

Never again is all I have to say!
