“A gem for foodies and oenophiles alike!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

It was the sign that caught my eye: "Cuisine from near and far." My steak salad was SUPERB! My friends split the shrimp and grits and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was great. The wine my friends originally ordered was out of stock, but the restaurant replaced it with a more expensive special reserve wine at the lower price. Highly recommend!

“Great food, eclectic menu and decor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

While visiting Asheville, Billy our host at Reynolds' Mansion B&B recommended Stoney Knob, on Hwy 25 north of downtown Asheville. It has a classic diner feel at first glance, but once inside, if you sit in the now enclosed porch, you can share your meal with Madonna on one side, greek imagery on another, bullfighter on third and a Betty Paige pin-up holdilng court on the fourth wall. The menu is billed as mediterranean and greek - but has a wide selection from steaks to pasta to seafood and great for kids. We tried the ribeye with coffee rub, on a bed of fries and jalapeno infused cream corn ($22) and incredible eggplant ($16), with a layer of spinach over a perfect risotto cake w/ asparagus...all topped with crushed tomatoes and drizzled w/ fresh olive oil - beautiful plating and seriously good. The scratch lobster bisque was superior to many we've had in Maine. We didn't make it back for a second meal as there are so many unique restaurants in the Asheville area - but this one topped the list of the ones we tried.

“No. No. No.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2011

All right, here's the deal: the food can be decent, but the people who run this place may be deceitful. Our waitress brought us a different bottle of wine from the one we ordered (about $70 more expensive), and the management expected us to pay for it. Worse, we were told that if we didn't pay, the waitress would have to pay for it out of her salary. Worse even, two of the managers came to our table to discuss the issue.

Avoid this place.

“Fantastic Food. Comfortable Atmosphere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2011 via mobile

What a special place. We had the Greek sampler and duck spring rolls and almost licked the plate. I loved my Chicken Marsala, hubby had the New York Strip special and my son (13) had the lamb shank-all cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Little girl had noodles and 2 huge meatballs, could only finish one. After a day of rafting on the French Broad, was very pleased to have Trip Asvisor guide us to this delight.

“We had dinner with Mother Mary and Betty Page!”

Very funky (in a good way) decor. Creative menu, delicious food, and friendly service. Live music to accompany our meal. Worth a special trip from Asheville and other western NC vacation spots.
