Was in Waynesvile for a family reunion. Picked this hotel for the location - close to all the family activities and because it has a pool. The pool was the main reason for choosing Best Western, as we had grandchildren with us. Otherwise, we would have stayed at a B&B.
Checked in and then left to go visit family and have dinner. Got back to the hotel so kids could swim and the pool was closed. Checked with the office and found out that the pool filter pump was broken. When I asked if it was going to be fixed the office person said she did not know when, turns out the pool had been closed for several days. I honestly believe that the pool is/was going to stay close as Labor day was a week away. The office person said the pool is closed after Labor Day. This is ridiculous as Asheville is 30 minutes one way and Knoxville is less 2 hours west and I am sure a replacement part could be found.
I was very disappointed and so were the kids, as being on top of a mountain, there wasn't much else for them to do. They could play catch in the yard. I told the office person that the only reason I had picked the Best Western was because of the pool and I felt like our stay should be compensated. It wasn't - which I am sorry to say.
The views are wonderful. We sat out on the benches in front of our rooms and watched the clouds on the mountains. It was normal August weather in the mountains- some days were rainy and others were sunny.
The breakfast area as mentioned in other reviews is small, but breakfast was adaquate. Hard boiled eggs, make your own waffles, fruit, cereal, baked goods.
The room was nice, the bathroom is small and it has the same kind of tub I have found in other hotels. You step into the bathtub for a shower and you are 4 inches or so off of the floor. So when you get out of the shower you have to step down. Also it appears that wall tile was used on the floor and it can be a little slick if the floor is wet. Wish there was a hand bar to hold onto while getting out of the tub / shower. Towels were nice. Tv was nice, had a small refrigarator and a microwave. Only complaint about the room was the outside safety lightning which shined in around the drapes. I just took th edge of the drape and put it behind the door handle and that solved that problem.
The only problem was the pool being out of order.
The front rooms face the highway, but they also face a wonderful view. The road noise isn't very...
