Normally, when we travel to the NC coast, we stay in [mh]otels. This trip, for a family reunion, we decided to try something different and we had absolutely no idea what to expect. I was VERY pleasantly surprised.

From our first contact with Becky and Scott, when we booked our room, I was impressed with their interest in our wants/needs. We spent several minutes on the phone discussing which room we wanted (Becky gave a brief plus/minus description of each available) and what we liked for breakfast and so forth.

From the time we arrived Saturday afternoon until we left Monday morning, we were treated like favored guests (hosts always ready to help, answer questions, make suggestions) and like family (Becky offered the use of the kitchen if we needed to make something for the reunion, and we talked long after Monday's breakfast about family, kin, pets, etc.)

And, of course, the breakfasts were excellent. And sometimes accompanied by operatic arias.

We stayed at the Moss House when we went to Washington, NC for a wedding - found the house quite quiet and comfortable and perfectly situated in this lovely little town - the innkeepers, Beckie and Scott Sipprell, were very hospitable and accommodating - we made a decision at the last minute that required an early departure one morning - they graciously offered the standard full breakfast at 7:30 AM, fully one hour earlier than their regular schedule - and the breakfasts are sumptuous, a terrific combination of fresh baked goods, fresh fruits, and tasty entrees - we highly recommend this B&B as a great place to relax and enjoy all that Washington, NC has to offer.

We were guests at the Moss House for a great three day weekend in July. We brought our boat down and kept it in a slip at the Washington City Docks. We would get up, and Becky would have a wonderful breakfast for us. Then we would walk down to our boat for a day on the water. In the late afternoon we would go back up to the B&B to clean up for supper out. We had three great meals at three great restaurants recommended by Becky and Scott. Their B&B was filled with warm and inviting rooms. We especially enjoyed the comfortable beds and bedding. I cannot think of one negative aspect of our stay. It was just all around delightful.

  • Liked — The beautiful rooms.
  • Disliked — Nothing comes to mind.

The Moss House is a lovely place to stay in a lovely community. This sounds like a cliche, but it is only a few blocks from the waterfront and the downtown in the small sailing village of Washington. It's quiet, but within walking distance of several good restaurants. Innkeeper Beckie's breakfasts are unique and very good. Do not miss taking Bella, the canine innkeeper, for her morning or evening walk with Scott, the best coffee maker in Little Washington.

The Moss House is a lovely bed and breakfast in a Victorian home dating from 1902. We stayed one night in the Anchorage room. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the room was spacious. We did not have a problem sleeping, but I would warn light sleepers that the inn is located only two blocks from a major thoroughfare and there is some traffic noise, especially on that side of the house.

The owners are new to the B&B business, but you would never know it. The inn is wonderfully decorated and they are a fountain of information on local things to do. When I called to make our reservation, Becky made sure to inquire what our travel plans were. She advised me that we absolutely had to book our ferry to Ocracoke in advance via phone. She also makes an absolutely fabulous breakfast. If you do go, you might ask her to make her wonderful home made sage sausage.

  • Liked — tough to choose: wonderful room, fabulous owners, tasty breakfast
  • Disliked — a little street noise, but worth it.
