That's how we felt at Tom and Deede's lovely B&B... it was like staying with old friends. Great to experience a little snow while we visited the area--- too bad we had to return to the rat race of a big city. Hope to return to enjoy the mosquito-free hammock in the summertime.

Lovely escape to the Baird House. Tom and DeeDee Hinson are the perfect hosts. They served a delicious breakfast and our room was perfection. Babbling stream/creak outside the front door. Truly heaven. We wish we'd had more time to explore the area -- plenty to see!!

Escaped to the Baird House B&B from our hectic life for an evening and were so appreciative of the accomodating hosts, fantastic room, we stayed in Appleview, and experience of the Inn as a whole.
Set across the rural lane from the River, the Colonial Baird House and detached marvelous Carriage House, replete with rooms also, is surrounded by porches, rocking chairs, gardens, a fire pit and ancient trees. It is a picture waiting to be painted.
The main house is a Colonial vision with much original structure, flooring, fireplace, etc. The decor is not over done - rather it is tasteful and period specific. We have stayed in many B&B's, especially in the Mountain areas, and SO many are cheaply overdone, over-the-top, country motif-UGH!!!! Not the Baird House; both the main house and the rooms are furnished with antiques, down comforters, great mattress, new fixtures, top of the line materials....we were really impressed!!!
The room had a small bar sink, coffee pot, fridge, creamers, sugar, etc....additionally full bath, whirlpool tub for 2, vanity in bath, (shower for 2 also!), tv/DVD player, small table and 2 chairs private porch with rockers....just fantastic.
Breakfast at 9 AM - although coffee is served earlier, homemade choc chip cookies 24/7 (!), was downright righteously awesome!! Fresh fruit cup, bacon, zucchini/sour cream pancakes, granola---MMMMMMMMMMMMM!!
Perfect blend of attendance and alone time from the hosts - Will visit again!!

Room Tip: Appleview faces rear - really private

We made a one night stop at the Baird House and wish we could have stayed longer. I love history and loved the story behind this old home. This location was so relaxing with the river running by.
Tom welcomed us and gave us a tour of the home and made us feel right at home. We had my inlaws along, this was their first B&B experience and they loved it. Tom was able to give us recommendations on dinner including tips on where to park and he was spot on. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful! The place is is worth visiting just for the good food. I would highly recommend The Baird House to anyone and we plan on visiting again.

My husband and I drove the Blue Ridge Parkway and stayed at various B&B's along the way. The Baird House was our favorite. Tom welcomed us with a rich history of the house and area. Tom and DeeDee are very welcoming hosts. Breakfast was the best by far! Scrambled eggs, hashbrown casserole, homemade biscuits and jelly, bacon, coffee, fruit, muffins, granola and the best chocolate chip/pecan cookies ever. We loved our stay here and will definitely return!

My husband and I recently spent part of our honeymoon at the Baird House. Tom welcomed us with a brief history of the house and made us feel instantly welcome. We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and the cool temperatures of Valle Crucis. Deede made the most wonderful zucchini sour cream walnut pancakes and sent us off for the day completely stuffed. This was a delightful stop on our travels and we are planning on returning to celebrate our anniversaries.
