I wrote a separate review for our stay at The Mast Farm Inn, but this focuses on our dinner experience at the on-premise restaurant.
You don't have to stay at the Inn to enjoy the great culinary experience at Simplicity! This is not your typical restaurant. You can select from the a la carte menu, but your best option is to go with the set menu ($42 per person). We had decided well before hand that we would just go with the set menu, no matter what was on it. We were not disappointed!!
I'll first say that the staff work very hard here, many working long hours, but there is always a smile and a person touch to all that they do! We were seated and immediately felt right at home. After receiving some fresh homemade bread with herbed butter, our first course was a cauliflower with melted leek soup (with truffle oil on top). Whoa!! I am not fond of cauliflower, but this hands down was the best soup I have ever had! Next up was duck carpaccio salad. Fantastic!!! Wonderful flavors working together! Duck was slightly chewy, but I did not mind. Next was the main course of Red Snapper over a bed of shredded sweet potato and sautéed kale. The whole thing was so well done! I wish I had more of that kale, it was very good!! Many of these ingredients were either from the Mast Inn garden or from local farmers, so its very fresh and delicious! Dessert was equally good with a chocolate cake and homemade ice cream. By this time, I was stuffed!!
We are still talking about the food today. We almost went back the second night, but we would not be able to get a table until 8pm and we couldn't wait that long, so we ate at another restaurant in Banner Elk (review on that experience forthcoming....which was terrible).
It might be pricey for some folks, but definitely in the range for the quality of food here! A must try!
