“Gave it a try, but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2010

We were staying at the St. Regis Resort for a recent weekend trip and my father-in-law made reservations at this restaurant based on location alone (we didn't have to drive anywhere). He had not seen the menu or its prices beforehand. Upon our arrival, we were seated in a completely empty restaurant. Thus, no reservation was really necessary. The tablecloth was dirty, like they hadn't replaced it when the last guests left. Although the view from our table was fantastic, it was really hard to have a clear view because the windows are so old and dirty you can barely see out. The entire restaurant needs a complete renovation... the decor is stuck in the 1980's, which tells me it might be original to the restaurant.

In terms of the food, it really wasn't that bad. Everything was made fresh and to order. My sis-in-law has a garlic allergy and they accommodated her dietary needs. But the waitress seemed as if she was helping a dozen other tables. She acted as if she was hurried, but she was only helping us and one other table of guests. The rolls took 45 minutes to make it to the table and the meal came about 10 minutes after the rolls. Frankly, the meal was good but not the best I have ever had. Very small portions for the price.

Overall, I would definitely travel to a different restaurant in Surf City or Topsail Beach to get a better and much cheaper meal.

“Not As Bad As We Anticipated. After...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2010

Not As Bad As We Anticipated.
After reading other reviews we were prepared for a horrible meal and it actually came out pretty decent. The decor is stuck in 1992 and the website menu is stuck in 2003. Our waitress had an old food stain on her left shoulder but was trying hard to please us. We had the bacon wrapped scallops and the shrimp in tomato sauce as appetizers. Bacon on one of the scallops was a bit underdone and the polenta under the shrimp was a brick but the scallops and shrimp were done nicely. Best dish of the evening turned out to be the Proscuttio Wrapped Wahoo over Risotto. They got the risotto right. Overall, a bit pricey and well past it's prime, but if you're close to the St Regis, it's tough to beat it's location.

“Worst meal on T.I. all week.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2009

For the money the service was not good and the meal was worse. 10 people in the group so the tip was added at 15 or 20%. We spent almost $400 and got better food at a Shoney's seafood bar in WV on the trip home. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY IN THIS OVERPRICED RESTAURANT!!!!!

“heated affair at this restaurant!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2009

i attended a wedding reception at this restaurant and would have really enjoyed it to the max had the air conditioner been working. all of the wedding guests were sweating and were told by the bartender that the air conditioning was malfunctioning. i would think that the management would have resolved this problem since the reception was scheduled far in advance...
the wait staff, bartender and food was very good. the ocean view is quite spectacular but would have been enjoyed a whole lot more if the air conditioner had properly cooled off the room. no one likes to eat and drink when hot!!!
