We stayed in one of the rustic cabins. It's one step up from camping, but you have a double bed and set of bunk beds. This place was extremely clean and well maintained. While we have camped in the past, my hubby and 16 yr old daughter wanted to stay in a hotel. Since I was the planner I decided we'd try Mama Gertie's. we stayed in cabin 3 which was beside a stream, had a fire pit, charcoal grill and felt private. It also had a covered porch and swing. My family decided within 1 hr of being there that this was a definite place to return. You do have to take sheets and towels ( we used our sleeping bags and covered the mattresses with a sheet). The do have outlets and we did carry a coffee pot (the office doesn't open till 9am, so you would need to drive into Swannanoa to get coffee). Next time we'll stay in cabin 5 as it is closer to the bathroom/shower. The bathrooms were very clean. You do walk up a slight hill to get to the closest one. There is an Ingles Grocery within a few miles and they have a good salad, olive and chicken bar which we got a to go several times. Went into Asheville for lunch/dinner at some of their awesome restaurants.
The staff are very friendly and went out of their way to offer help, if it was needed. Security is good as they keep a close eye on anyone coming in to the campground.
Cabin 3,4,5 are beside the stream. No dogs allowed which is a bummer.
