“The Best Restaurant on Topsail Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2010

We've been coming to Topsail Island for 30 years and have lived there for 10 years, and this is the best restaurant on the island. There have been a few others that rivaled this one or surpassed it, but they have closed. The wait can be long here, but the servers are friendly, the view of the sound is great, the food is always fresh and hot (the cooks know what they are doing), and the prices are only moderately high. The big rocking porch overlooking the sound makes the wait not so bad. They always have a fresh fish of the day selection that is superbly prepared, or you can get your favorite standby of broiled, grilled, or fried fish with two sides and delicious cornbread. Sears Landing is the best.

“Terrible food after waiting an hour!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2010

We have just left Sear's Landing where we waited almost an hour to get cold, flavorless food. I personally ordered the Classic Chicken pita and the corn on the cob. The chichen had decent flavor but was so dry it was hard to swallow and the corn on the cob is deep fried and so greasy! The others with me ordered seafood. One had crab cakes with fries and corn; the crab cakes had no flavor, the fries were cold and the corn, greasy. The next had fried flounder and fries; again the flounder had no flavor and was very greasy and fries were cold. The last had the combo plate with fried shrimp and the fish of the day, Mahi Mahi with fries and corn. The shrimp and fish had no flavor and again the fries were cold and the corn greasy. Luckily, we did not have to pay for the meal as the waitress told us the bill was taken care of.

We left Sear's Landing and stopped by Hardee's. Hardee's was much better!

“Fabulous Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2009

We've been to Sears Landing for dinner and enjoyed their wonderful crab cakes. But this is the first time we've been for breakfast. We sat on the back deck with a spectacular view of the sound and had one of the best breakfasts in a long time. My wife loved her omelet (they have a good variety), and I enjoyed my eggs, sausage, french toast, and coffee. The food was very well prepared and the view was to die for. No pancakes on the menu, so if that's your thing, you're out of luck. We went back three times during our stay.

“Service is friendly, but food average at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2009

We poured over reviews on tripadvisor in an attempt to find a good, consistent restaurant on Topsail Island, which was more difficult than expected. Based on reviews, we gave Sears a try. Six of us (grandparents, parents, two elementary age kids) ate a range of items. The crab fritters were too large, which made them gooey in the middle and they were very bland. We left one, even though we were hungry. Tried the fried corn on the cob - not a good idea - very greasy. The crab cake was large (single), but there was a big piece of shell which got lodged in my wife's teeth - made it hard to venture forward and eat more. The grilled mahi was ok - a bit overcooked. The slaw was great :). Fried shrimp and fries (with fruit) was enjoyed by a couple of folks in the group. One of the kids ejoyed the peel-and-eat shrimp. Fried flounder was good, but greasy.

The service was very good and the setting - on the salt water flats - was very enjoyable. There are rocking chairs if you care to sit out back and wait for a table, or just hang-out.

The restaurant also says they strive to be environmentally friendly on their menus...

“Get Your Money's Worth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2009

We ordered the "pick two" with Mahi Mahi and scallops and the "pick three" with Mahi Mahi, scallops and the crab cake. The meals were $20 and $23 respectively. The piece of fish was huge in comparison to other places and seasoned just right. We each had approximately 8 large scallops. They were slightly undercooked, but still good. The crab cake was amazing. They don't use a lot of filler, so it's mostly crab. While most crab cakes are very small, this one was huge. You'll get your money's worth, right down to the dinner salad and sides.
