“Home Grown Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

As a local, we go to listen to music, buy a bag of apples or sometimes just one. I like the atmosphere. The view is beautiful. Bill Carson is a Mitchell County gem. If you are passing through or live in the area I recommend a jaunt to the orchard.

“Mountain Music & Dancing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

One of our favorite places to visit to listen to authentic mountain music and watch some really good dancers! Good, clean family atmosphere. Hayrides available for a fee on certain days.

“Make it an outing or just a stop on the Blue Ridge Parkway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

Great place to listen to country music or blue grass, clog, bite in fresh apple in season or just stop during a Blue Ridge Parkway ride. They have the best cider and many local produce and Appalachian information.

“Fun stop along the Parkway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

You MUST stop here as you take the drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway! Bill Carson and his family have a true gem here. He loves to tell stories about the area during the Revolutionary War ,whether on the deck overlooking the mountains or on a hay ride. He brings locals in for mountain music and has led the way in preserving the history and land along the Parkway. They have apples, fudge, ice cream, jams, books about the area,..it's just fun to listen to music, eat apples, hear stories and dance!

“An Appalachian Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

The Orchard at Altapass is to the Appalachian region what cowboy music is west of the Rockies. The music that’s performed is the voice of a people who could overcome the rugged isolation of the mountains with honest, heartfelt lyrics sung to toe tapping instrumentals. And you’re never just a spectator—you can get up on the floor and join in the dancing. The Orchard itself hangs onto the side of a mountain high up along the Blue Ridge Parkway and gives the visitor unrivaled views of the valleys and distant mountain ranges. Hayrides transport you through the decades old grove as your host regales you with the history of the region going back to the Revolutionary War. Besides apple products in season, there are condiments, plenty of sweet treats, books and music CD's to take home with you. If you’re there on the weekend, you can get a picnic lunch at the Food Wagon. And don’t forget to save room for ice cream—lots of flavors to choose from!
