“Excellent”

Simply put, the best meal (lunch) we've had during our two week vacation in the Carolina beach area. Everything was home made and delicious plus the service was exemplary. A must go location.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

We were walking around Southport looking for a place to eat dinner when we stumbled upon Ports of Call. The atmosphere was pleasant. We ordered 2 apps beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon also a mozzarella tomato bruschetta . The beef was tender but there was too much bacon wrapped on each piece and not crispy as one would expect . The mozzarella and tomato were piled on big thick pieces of bread so that all the topping fell off when you tried to eat it.The service was fair. The waitress smiled and was friendly. We also ordered 2 gin and tonic's one of which barely had but a splash of gin. It felt like they were skimping on the gin. I'd stick with wine or beer. We waited for the bill which never came. So we handed the waitress a $100 bill. She then returned with change. And still no bill or receipt. When we asked for the bill she stated "we dont have a computer. I can write one if you want". So we did the math in our head to figure the cost of the meal in order to tip appropriately. We will not be returning even though they were nice people.

“Quaint & Unexpected Treat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

Before 'calling it a day', stopped in at Ports of Call for a light meal. We were immediately seated at the exact same table where starring actors for "Safe Haven" enjoyed a meal / filmed. The hostess shared a few minutes of pleasant conversation and promptly sent our server over. Ordered wine - based on his recommendation - which was very pleasing. Continued our light meal with a large cheese plate - complete with caper berries, marcona almonds, a sweet preserve, & artisan crackers. All quite good and each complimented the other - but would have preferred a crusty bread versus the crackers. We also ordered a tomato, basil, & mozzarella appetizer - and though very fresh and tasty - had a bit too many onions. A favorite was the corncakes! These treats were made with corn, of course, roasted red peppers, and jalopenos for a bit kick. They were topped with a bit of cheese and drizzled with honey. We finished with the chef's version of a lemon bar - which featured blueberry & mango along with the lemon - quite a combination - but EXTREMELY good.
Each sampling was deliciously memorable and our server was pleasant and very attentive.

“Nice Surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

It was our first visit to the Southport area and we wanted a really nice dinner, and we found it. Ports of Call was fabulous. I think half of our group of 8 had the scallops and they were delicious. Also had a great wine list. I highly recommend the "Educated Guess" wine. Everything from the salads to the desserts were fresh. And speaking of dessert, save room for the Key Lime Pie! The best I've ever had. Ports of Call is an upscale restaurant, in a casual environment.

“Absolutely the best lunch!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

Wasn't quite sure about this bistro but gosh what a great surprise!!!! Excellent service and food. We would definitely eat here again! We recommend the Cuban sandwich, oysters, their daily special corn chowder with peach tomato bruschetta and even the cheeseburger were great.
