An interesting stop while in Southport. There were more (fun) things to view than I thought there would be.

A good chunk of historical pieces of the maritime and historical interests. Best of all it's FREE!

“Little hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2012

I love this little place. Great for local history. They have some very interesting things about when hurricane Hazel hit the area. If I remember correctly there is a telegram from OKI fire chief? that basically said "Oak Island is gone". Take the time & go visit this little Museum. Brush up on local history

“Educational, Well displayed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2012

A great introduction to coastal living over the past 400 years. Something for pirates, fishing enthusiasts, indian lore, colonial life and boaters. A lot of education in a small space, even their own research facility. As a history teacher I go there annually and learn something new each time.
