“Fall in the Sapphire Valley”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

Hoping for the fall color in the Sapphire Valley, but we were too early. We loved breathing in the mountain air and exploring nearby Cashiers and Brevard. We made a wonderful memory walking around Lake Fairfield through Merrie Woode girl's camp when my husband fell in the lake WITH my camera! As for the resort, this was the perfect quiet season. Our unit was clean and comfortable. Our king sized bed was quite nice. I have one word to describe our stay here: PEACEFUL. We enjoyed the rec center's mini golf and workout center. FYI: The front desk is not open at all on Saturday and closes at 6 PM. We were glad our unit had no problems. Warning: ATT cell phone has extremely limited service in this area. The wifi in our unit worked well.

My family have had an annual timeshare here since the 1980's. I have the best memories growing up here every year. The location is GORGEOUS!! And the amenities are great! Endless amounts of fun. My kids are now 4 (twins) and 9 months and they enjoy it just as much I did.

We are Wyndham owners and have been to well more than a dozen properties. Reviews were not favorable for this resorts. I traveled with a girlfriend and prepared her ( and myself) that the resort may not be very nice.
I have nothing negative to say. Our 1 BR unit was very clean, towels thick, linen nice and sofa bed with great mattress, kitchen had all we needed. Furniture appeared new and clean.
The area itself is wonderful with all the outdoor activities and fabulous restaurants.
We did not used the recreation center so can not comment on that staff. We went into the center, pools and exercise room looked nice.
Will definately return !!

Based on other TripAdvisor reviews, I did not have high expectations. This is an older resort, and some of the building shows it. Furnishings in bedroom are excellent. Mini Kitchen is stocked well. Stove needs improvement. Housekeeping staff keeps the inside clean.
Wi-Fi and cellular phone service is limited, so you can get away from it all. Location is a good for staging your mountain drives or hikes. Be ready for inside stairs in the 1 bedroom units, and neighbors above you.

Sapphire Valley is one of the most beautiful places to spend some time in the southeast. Boasting miles of hiking trails, hundreds of waterfalls, winding two lane roads through lush mountain foliage and gorgeous mountains, lakes, rivers, and streams, it's just spectacular.

The Wyndham resort offers affordable rentals for folks hoping to spend some time in this mountain paradise. Although the units are dated, they offer clean and comfortable lodging for families or couples.

My beef is with the service. The people who run the recreation center, the community center, the beach area and boathouse, etc. have never been trained on the very basics of customer service. They approach the most mundane tasks with a bizarre, draconian stuper. Every interaction is tinged with a surly and unfortunate huffing and puffing that smacks of "why are you bothering us" instead of "how may we help you."

It's policy and procedure and confusion instead of smooth interaction. The staff seems overwhelmed by the idea of serving guests. They take an inordinate amount of time to do anything, and there's no smiles, no pleasure in the experience and instead, what comes across as out and out hostility. We found but a single employee - in the community center - who was joyful and happy to answer questions and provide information. The rest of the crew - especially in the recreation center - were just incredibly inept and uncaring.

I don't know how difficult it is to hire staff, but apparently, it's appallingly awful at this resort. I am aware of a number of colleges in the mountains where one would think summer employment candidates could be located. Alas no. Instead you get tired, worn out looking folks who seem to put more effort in identifying the color sheet that you should have signed your name on than actually providing a service to guests.

I'd love to come back to this area. I'd love to use the amenities that guests can take advantage of. But I'm darned sure not going to visit a place again where the service sticks out like a sore thumb - a very sore thumb, and actually takes the shine off what is otherwise a glorious place.

The owners of this resort would be wise to start fresh with TRAINED customer service folks running their public places. The overall experience would be greatly enhanced.

We were informed on arrival that the resort was not managed by Wyndham.

Oh how true that was, when we saw where we were staying for a week. The unit was small, dated and not very clean. The couch was an off white with black stains everywhere somebody would sit. The screen on the back door was ripped, so you had to keep the door closed to keep the insects out.
My wife refused to use the shower because it had spiders crawling around in it.
The black ants in the unit were nonstop and we went to Ingles to buy bug spray to try to keep them at bay.
We've been Wyndham owners for 17 years and have ALWAYS been happy with their resorts until now. I agree with the person that said this is not the quality we pay substantial maintenance fees for.

Room Tip: Try a tent before wasting a weeks stay at this resort

This is our first stay since we became Wyndham owners. I sure hope this is not what we can expect with other resorts owned by Wyndham. We stayed in a one bedroom deluxe. The units are very dated and are in dire need of repairs, especially on the outside. The gutters are actually rotting and falling off. The inside of the unit was clean except for the head of our bed. The dust was so thick we could write in it and their was someone's long hair laying there. We found a leaf and a dead ant in our bed! My husband went down to the office and told them about the headboard being dirty and they said they would have someone come clean it and that NEVER happened. The couch is the most uncomfortable thing we have ever tried to sit on. We literally laid in our bed to watch tv. We will be letting Wyndham know about our experience as we pay outrageous maintenance fees as owners. Will come back again I'm sure but hopefully they will be updated by then!
